For those of you that have suggested that the Fodera finish is "only average at best," it would be tremendously helpful to all of us that own them to know who specifically you suggest as being better, cheaper and faster so that these people become options for Fodera owners...

However, I do still agree with the previous post -- i.e. I think that it would material decrease the value of your Fodera to have a non-Fodera refinish...

Just reread my post and it did come off as sounding obnoxious...sorry about that! I am just trying to offer a different opinion and my post sounded like mine is the only one that can be right...as we all know, that just ain't so! Again, sorry for the tone! Cheers....

BTW, have you heard a Fodera with the new Pope Pre? It is pretty special. I persoanlly like the old Pope Pre too, but the new version (shipping since 1/09) is much more natural sounding and adds less tonal color. As for B-strings, as a lifelong 4-string guy, that's a gripe I haven't had to worry about! ;)

OK, I guess since you own more than 6 your opinion matters more than mine, being that I've only owned 6:)

i think its average at best. when i need quick local repairs done i take my stuff to my buddy who is shop foreman at national resophonic guitars and when he first saw my bass he was like "did you take some steel wool to this thing or something"

i also needed a finish repair on it after following some fodera advice gone bad years ago and i sent it to michael dolan to repair. he took one look at it and said this is just a simple urethane finish and resprayed the damaged section. its indistinguishable where the over spray is.

Some eyes candy.. Not really into Emperor II 4 string.. but this one is eyes catching and again proven the master craftsmanship. :bassist:

WOOOOOOOOOW:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

tHIS ONE IS SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

a fantastic idea to mix these woods!!!!

I can' t believe what I see

While the woodwork is impressive, that is IMO one of the most hideous looking instruments I've ever seen. Massive yuck on that one, from the color combination to the cheezy gold hardware to the strange imbalance of that Emeror II type body and a 4 string neck.

Although my reaction is not as strong as Ken's, I don think its odd they chose to put the "eye" in the koa yang part 2/3 off and 1/3 on the fret board. That choice means that from any angle other than straight on, the eye is going to look a little "cock-eyed" because the board is about 5mm higher than the body. Its a very odd aesthetic choice. I also agree that the wood combination doesn't fit together particularly well. Its like wearing navy and black. No contrasting enough to look sharp, but not close enough to blend. You end up just looking like you are colour blind! :)

+1 Also, on a bass with this level of the 'fancy schmancy', those black switches look very out of place and almost like an afterthought when contrasted with the gold hardware. Minor issue, but that is not happening given the cost and the 'vibe' of this bass IMO.

+1..

Although "eyes catching", not my cup of tea though..:hiding:

Gang -- I was in the shop several times during the production of this bass...a few points.

1. It is the first and only Emperor II Yin Yang;
2. All specs were selected by the Customer;
3. Vinny was not even in love with the idea of doing a Emperor II Yin Yang as the body proportions don't lend themselves well to the desing -- thus the pearl dot falling 1/2 on and 1/2 off the fretboard;

All of this said, it is killer sounding and playing bass -- I too do not like the way it looks -- too over the top for me, but that's the point of a true custom shop like Fodera -- the customer dreamed this up and Vinny, Joey and Vadym turned it into reality!

I actually love how this bass looks...

But it doesn't look like a Yin Yang, you know?

As a bass, it looks gorgeous, I love it, but ...

The whole POINT of Yin and Yang is BLACK and WHITE... opposite forces (such as good and evil).

The moment you do the Yin Yang in shades of brown, or in other cases red and brown, you are showing the art, but not the meaning the symbol was designed for.

Again, that's cool for some guys, and I don't mean by any stretch to disparage anyone's bass, but for ME, and I own a holly and ebony yin yang, the appeal isn't just the shape of swirls, I like what the symbol means and if you tamper with the colors, in this instance anyway, you dilute the meaning.

So for me, like the bass's look, but it's not a yin yang, just attractive swirls in wood.
