so i thought id give a report on my emperor elite 5. ive had this bass around 8 years and custom ordered it. however, things change in 8 years right? well, i bought a peavey cirrus and much preferred the string spacing on that bass versus the 19 mm spacing of the fodera.
so, i shipped the bass out to carey norstrand and had him install a 17.5mm hipshot a bridge. i just got it back a few days ago and its fantastic. i was a little worried about the strings not lining up with the pickup pole pieces, but i adjusted the side to side spacing and theres no difference in b or e string response compared to the old bridge. it also sounds better. when i would slam the action with the fodera bridge, it would always sound kind of hard and clanky. it needed slightly higher action (still really low mind you) to really speak. with this bridge, i can set it up slammed and still get the airy, spongy kind of sound i like. i highly recommend this bridge.
heres a pic and a soundclip. the clip is just some random wanking (isnt that what youre supposed to do on a fodera)

Great idea with the new bridge Joe.....nice looking bass.
i never thought id like tight spacing and when i ordered this i figured id use it as a do everything bass. experience has proven that to be a bad idea. fenders for stuff that needs fendery sounding bass and this for geekier stuff.
i just picked up one of those old gary willis looking ibanez sr885 basses and the neck on that thing is sex. if feels like if my 62 jazz had 5 strings. ive got some aero 5 string pickups coming in for it that i snagged from the classifieds so it should end up getting a lot of playing time. gotta love it when a 150 dollar bass can be set up with the same action as a fodera![]()
Good score on the 885. My GWB1005 neck is bomb, I can't imagine being able to move faster on a bass (for me).
W
Its mine. Its also Bolivian Rosewood w/Sapwood

19mm i believe. its a big bass. most people get it with 16-17mm. i like my wide spacing. It looks great what's the string spacing at the bridge. It looks quite generous to me.
you've got the two basses mixed up i think.Sorry to bother you, but if that bass is yours... can you explain the crater on the edge of the neck - it is there ... or it is only for warning others....

+1.Wow I really love your Fodera. Maybe my favorite one. Beautiful.![]()
I agree, I have seen A LOT of Fodera's and your's is one of my very favorites, the Tulipwood Top with Purplheart stringers is just INSANE!! Black.Rose 42, can't wait to see yours!
When I got my Fodera Monarch Deluxe, it had several nicks, scratches, chips, holes, etc. in it from the previous owner.
I tried to lightly sand (800 to 1500 wet) and buff them out, but a couple of them were just too deep. Here's one that was going really well, until I leaned a bit too much towards the edge and took off all the finish at the edge. Even though I've already taken off more finish than I should have, the hole is still prominently visible, and now it has a new problem.

So, I finally decided to send it back to Fodera to be refinished.
They are REALLY backed up on repairs and refinishing right now, so they wouldn't even make a guess about how long it will be before they get it done.
I began to miss my Fodera the instant I packed it in the box.![]()
This is something that can be done in a day or two whereas waiting for a complete strip and refinish will likely be a 6-month wait, minimum!!
So do I!
I hope that mine will look as good as hou's bass.
hey Christian, as you live in europe we'll have to hook up to take pictures of our basses together (and also play them lol)
Yeah! Lets us do thatI just posted a clip of me playing the Fodera with drums and trombone. First time we ever played together. I used the bridge pickup
