To me this looks like the perfect blend of simplicity and playability. The video alone has got me wanting to start saving....the price is doable. Not cheap, but certainly doable!

No, it's not INCREDIBLE, it is a fully fathomable and believable value. A beautiful $3,995 passive P-bass .

Excellent P bass!! I would like to order a five string version of that bass with a single dual coil SD pickup (at the lower p pickup location) if it's possible at all. I'll ask Jason ( @Just Thumpin' ) about that, I guess.

It's really nice looking and sounding, but some small part of me thinks it sort of defeats the point of a P bass

I played one at NAMM - it played like a Fodera, sounded like a P-bass. If that's what you want, then this is your bass.

And the butterfly - that was explained to me by one of the Fodera guys. The Abalone inlay added about $250 to the cost to bass (not the material, but the species export license) - removing that one bit allowed them to keep the price down. The knobs would also be bigger than shown in the photos - and the body would be routed to allow a user to add a bigger preamp later if they like (I'm guessing they are using the same body routing jigs for this as their higher-end monarch standards). Really, if you put a bit of time into one of these, you could have a YY standard for a fraction of the price. Pretty cool.

That - and I think they wanted to compete with some lower-cost brands, to create and "Entry Level" Fodera - which is STILL made in the USA, by hand, out top-quality materials... so, one could argue it's a no-brainer.
