Fodera Monarch P

I can't recall if it was from an online post or from a video, but I was told that the modified butterfly allows them to export to other markets which were previously unavailable to them. From was was said, abalone was not allowed for import to certain places in the world. The new logo lets them start to sell their products there. I'm wondering if this will be more common on future instruments from Fodera.

4k for a P-bass is definitely not ok for me. Not into boutique stuff at all (I'd have much more to say on the subject but prefer to leave it at that just so nobody feels offended) so for me it's a total waste of money. BTW, the pick playing in the Fodera P video is as sloppy as it gets. Pick playing on a bass has evolved a lot since that amorphous semy muted crap he plays. Properly picked (and grooved) P bass samples on a 88€ P-bass kit. Still sound more P bass than the Fodera. It's never the bass (much less a $4K bass). Looking that way is the wrong way for me, unless you're a collector of fine furniture, this is as far from a real life gigging P bass as it gets.
Why would anyone feel offended for a mere (and not more thn that) opinion being voiced?
It's not that important.

And whilst this particular demo video won't sell me anything, I think it's ok to give a little insight into what this bass is supposed to be.

P style basses are my favorite , but this one just didn't wow me. I'm sure it is well made and feels good, but so are a lot of way less expensive p style basses.
I don't see anything that would make me want to spend that amount of $ for one.

Are you saying you looked at it and watched the video on your computer and it didn't wow you or you've played one and it didn't wow you?

Looks, sounds and probably just is another great Fodera bass.

It's about the price of a beat up 66/68-P.

For me a no-brainer.

Exactly!
And the new butterfly logo is just fine.

Excellent P bass!! I would like to order a five string version of that bass with a single dual coil SD pickup (at the lower p pickup location) if it's possible at all. I'll ask Jason ( @Just Thumpin' ) about that, I guess.

That could be done. It would be a custom build, of course...

He's talking about the inlay I believe.

Trying to save $250 on a $4k bass doesn't make any sense to me either.

Actually, there were a number of additional considerations, one of which is the whole P-Bass "aesthetic." We felt that the way we handled the logo / Fodera Butterfly needed to be more understated on the Monarch-P. Obviously everyone has the right to their own opinion, but the reason for the difference was not based on cost alone.

This Fodera is probably a great example of the fact that a lot of what people like about high end basses does not translate directly into an improvement in sound. A listener cannot hear great fit and finish, great fretwork, or great playability.

Very true and if the bass plays like butter it may also sound better to the player (psychologically speaking).

I've never really been a P bass fan but my Fodera has made me appreciate the front pickup sound.

Hmmm if I'm spending 4K for a bass I should be able to get the Real Butterfly. If I'm spending 4K on a bass and the final price is $4250 and I got the Real Butterfly and I knew no better I wouldn't complain. Well I spent $275 on this, its a 5er and it meets all my P bass needs :-). I just saved myself $3720. That's the entry price on a Custom USA Made Brubaker. To each his own though if someone wants to spend 4k on a Fodera P Bass more power to them. Their money, their choice. Doesn't matter what I think.myPBass.JPG
