Fodera NYC, where is it made?

Wilbyman said:
I've heard the old NYC stuff was made in Japan. Not sure about the new NYC stuff. I also heard some of the NYC stuff was Warmoth (very little). Not trying to propogate the rumors, just wondering if anybody can corroborate.

No Will, those are Sadowsky's!!!
:hiding:

NYCs are DEFINITELY made in the Fodera shop in Brooklyn. They have never been made anywhere else. Used NYCs are a bargain, given that quality and the workmanship are the same as a standard Fodera bass. The idea was to make a quality bolt-on bass with limited options. The Monarch Standard is the Monarch analogue to the NYC bass.

oh, ok... so they aren't made in the same factory as Sad Metro's and FClefs in Japan?

hey, Thanks for clearing that up.;)

Well this contradicts a few PM's I've gotten from people over the last few days. They seem to indicate that the Fodera NYC, F-Clef and Sadowsky Metro are all built in the same Factory in Japan....

Joel or Beez, which is true?

I looked at the Fodera NYC site and it states that the NYC's are
“Hand Fitted” but doesn't indicate they're handmade. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it makes me wonder what "hand fitted" hints at...

Hi guys,

Sorry for my slow response... I don't have a definitive answer for you. The ones I've played at the shop have been great basses. We don't carry the NYC's though so we're not as intimately involved in the details as we are with the custom stuff.

Even though he doesn't carry them?

No offense but what other product pricing for items he doesn't sell should he know?

:D

Well, from this statement....

Now, name someone who sells Sadowsky Metros who can't tell you where an NYC Sadowsky is made

I find it very disturbing that in an industry so large, yet so small (in the high-end market) that companies still want to miss-lead the customer. I mean look at all the companies that don't hide the fact that they use CNC tools for different applications. These companies are all still very small (some one or two man shops), yet they offer their customer’s quality that is far beyond many. These guys charge reasonable prices which is actually kind of backwards if you consider the price of a dragon rasp vs a CNC machine.

I think that we as customers really need to demand companies to be honest with them. If it wasn’t a secret then customer’s would fill gimped thinking they had something different from what it really is.

Seriously, If you buy pre-made parts from a factory in the US or Japan or Korea, etc. then by honest about it. If its “Hand-Fit” in the US then state that but don’t miss-lead as though its also made in the US when not.

I mean Jesus, look at Sadowsky. Rodger makes no bones about what he does. As in demand as Sadowskys are he could rent a masive warehouse and say that he has everything built in house. If he did this, what would it change? Maybe .001% of the high end bass customers would give a crap, but 99.999% of us could care less where every peice of alder is glued together.

We buy the product for what it is not where it's made.

The only reason a company would keep a secret like this is to charge more money

For me...who cares where it is made or if it is hand made or not. What counts is the quality and care of the wood, hardware, electronics, and so on. I dont think it matter that a machine cut it out in japan or korea. what is the difference between a machine there and one here in the states. its all the same. I think the end product is what matters.

Yes, you do seem confused. No doubt Joel can address this but the way I read it...

A. He doesn't carry them.
B. He's played some at the shop? You do know that he goes to the Fodera shop, right. Even if he played it in his shop, if he DOESN'T SELL THEM, you expect him to have all of the details on them? Someone may have stopped by with one.

That's confusing:D. Why are you comparing someone who sells Sadowskys to someone who DOES NOT SELL NYCs?

Are you getting that? Is this thing on? Is there a reason you're basically calling him a liar?

Obviously by your logic Joel is withholding the information so he can make more money selling these ba... oops, he doesn't sell them.

Nice rant. By all means, make Joel spill the beans on the basses he's told us he DOES NOT CARRY. While he's at it, get him to tell you everything about G&Ls...

which he also doesn't carry.

I'm confused as to why you seem to keep missing what seems to be an obvious point... and you probably don't understand the Fodera market. Wherever they're made, they're marketed as Foderas and people will either buy them or not. THAT'S the litmus test, isn't it?

On the one hand you've chastised him for not disclosing information you later say isn't all that important.

"We buy the product for what it is not where it's made".

Okay:confused:

:D
