Depends on who you are you referring to as "they"? Not Fodera but yes, there are bass builders from Copenhagen.

Fodera NYC, where is it made?

And to stay on topic, my NYC Empire (alder/rosewood/Lane Poors/2 band Pope) has one of the best active jazz bass sounds I've ever heard, regardless of where it was made.

It's no use arguing with a Fodera owner. They will bash your brains in with pure, blind, and overall gratuitous passion for the maker. I know, I USED to own one. 
I might own one again in the future, but for the time being I find no desire to have that kinda cash wrapped up in one bass, when I can have it wrapped up in 2 Stambaughs, an EBMM 5 stingray, and an ElWhappo instead.

Who cares where or how foderas NYC are made? You play a bass you like it, you know the price, you buy it. Not because its made in a particular place in a particular way but because it sounds good, plays great and you enjoy playing it. A product is only worth what you think it is worth in this case. Even IF Foderas where made in Korea who cares? The product itself doesnt change does it?
If someone hands you a 3000USD bass which you play for awhile and fall in love with, then tells you the bass is made in Korea, will that be the deciding factor for your buy?
That P bass OWNS so bad by the way. Where can I get more info on these? (price, dealers, specs)

I gently disagree.
Tobias and Spector, among others, had some foreigner line of instruments, and they sell for way less than their original work.
I can imagine spending 4000$ for the work of Vinnie Fodera, or another luthier that I trust, but I have to be sure it's his work, not some other.
If I could handle some woodworking stuff, I don't care I could ask the same hour rate as Fodera, or M.Tobias, or Bill Conklin.
I've had the opportunity to both try the NYC basses anf FClef, and frankly the feel was so different that I really cannot believe they're made from the same hands.
Add to that that Fodera's building times are in the 2years range, I cannot imagine they've the time to handbuild those NYC.
My opinion, and it's just my opinion, is that they're assembled in NY, but woodworking is made elsewhere (according to the owner of a German bass shop, they're made in Japan).

It is an interesting question, and I have with me here a Fodera NYC Empire 4 string that I believe was MIJ.
I have heard the rumours on the grapevine too, and the fact that the S cut heel contouring is the same as the Bottomwave and F clef that are MIJ, makes me think they are indeed from the same makers over here (can't tell you who that is though). The bass is incredibly well made and plays like a dream...Just like the Bottomwave I have had through too. Whether it is MIJ or MIA makes no odds to me though, it's an incredible build. But, I do wish makers would stop lying about manufacture process, hand made vs CNC, Japan vs US etc... (like a number are known to do). I hope Fodera would not fall into that category, and anyway, what's wrong with MIJ anyway? It's synonymous with high quality, so why would they lie about it?! Makes no sense. Like Miura or Xotic too...

The NYC series was partly build in Japan by luthiers that trained at Fodera. They used woods send by Fodera to them. They only made the woodworks and paint jobs. Fodera put in the electronics, frets ect. And did the final work.
There has been several different lines of NYC models. Yours looks like part japanese one. First ones are from 90's and I dont know about them. Some of those had graphite necks and stuff like that! Then came the NYC's without pearloid butterfly. Then they changed a little and had the butterfly. Both made in Japan. The last line had vert different finish job and different logos, these were build just before the Standard line and I think they were build in Fodera shop.
I would be nice if somebody from Fodera could clear this up
all of them have been great basses. Some of them had upgraded Pope custom preamps and flamed tops ect.

Thanks for your answer! it is very interesting to her, and I know a number of other brands have done this too in the past, like Ken Smith for example. I owned a couple of those MIJ Burners which were awesome too.
This fodera was fantastic, nicest jazz neck you could wish for, perfect!
