Fodera Vs Carvin

Carvin and Fodera make a lot of different models, which two would the OP choose to compare? I think a well appointed JB or PB Carvin would be interesting to compare to an old Fodera NYC bass. A Brian Bromberg model might be interesting to compare to an Emperor Standard.
I think a model to model comparison of basses that share some sort of design similarities could actually shed some light on sound, philosophy of construction, comfort, ability to a good set up, etc. of course the Fodera will cost more, but cost is the byproduct of many factors, not just materials or build quality.

As with many things, the price/quality relation for bass guitars is closer to being exponential than linear. What top-shelf instruments like Fodera offer is amazing customization and perfect execution. They might not sound 4x better than a Carvin, but they are undoubtedly a step up in build-quality and personalization. The same dynamic can be seen in many different areas: the difference between a Brooks Brothers 1818 suit and a true bespoke suit made by a master tailor; the difference between Allen Edmonds shoes and bespoke from an accomplished cobbler; the difference between a Glock and a custom 1911; the difference between Ethan Allen furniture and custom pieces by master woodworkers; etc... It's no insult to the quality of the former in these pairs to note that the latter offer something special.
that doesn't have quite as much entertainment value as making fun of expensive basses & their owners...
Joey Chestnut also prefers Nathan's. I'm a Berks kind of a guy. Washes down smooth with a Straub.
This thread got me thinking. Maybe instead of having a Berks dog and Straub for dinner, I can do Ballpark and Old Milwaukee or a 230 Fifth and bottle of Sam Adams Utopias. The possibilities are endless.
I sold my vintage Submariner and replaced it with a Seiko self winder that looks just like the Rolex.
Neither one keeps time worth a crap.
So using Talkbass Logic, a Fodera cannot possibly play better than a SX.
But I'll never know for sure, as I'll never own a Fodera or an SX. Not ever.

The jazz was a couple hundred at a pawn shop.
The bottom one was never played before I bought it for less than a third of what you paid!
If all Fodera players played these basses world hunger would end tomorrow!

Nice. I have never been able to score a J/J Millennium in good condition.
What I honestly don't understand is why anyone thinks that because a particular bass is not worth the asking price to them, that it shouldn't be worth that much to anyone else.
I also don't get the "my bass smokes your bass" mentality.
Do you need to feel smarter, more enlightened, more down to earth, more sophisticated, or what?
I don't know how many this bass vs that bass threads I've seen. I get sucked in hoping that interesting features of the models will be discussed in an intelligent manner, and it always seems to degrade to primitive chest thumping and prideful nonsense.

All I know is I would never pay anywhere close to $8,000 for a bass no matter how much higher quality it is than a $1000 - $2000 bass.

You could get 6 of those or 1 Fodera for the same price, your choice!
I would choose 6 Roy Vogt signature model basses for Monday thru Saturday, and then play my bass on Sunday!
