He did not take a second signal from the guitar, which was only mic'd. This makes sense given the reasoning he explained to me, since the guitarist could not produce the tones he needed for performance without using his entire rig.

But of course you realize that there is at least some truth in that, right? If you pulled a guitarist's signal straight off his guitar, no one would like that unless he was someone like George Benson. If he were Billy Gibbons it would totally suck.
