Football/Soccer Video Refereeing [Poll]

There has been quite a bit of this mentioned over the other football threads floating about. Thought it could all be brought together in a single thread.

Keep in mind, if it was ever to be implimented, it probably wouldn't be for every call the ref. makes, only potential scoring and possible red cards. This would stop hand of god/frog events, would hopefully stop random goals being disallowed, stop penalties being given for dives etc.

I don't see how it would add to the quality of the match. I believe video reffing works best in a sport with a lot of interruptions, which football is not.

The way I see it, if it is only happening around the time where a score is involved. The video refereeing would be over and done long before the scoring team finished their celebrations and the other team stopped complaining.

I voted yes. However I only support it if it does not destroy the game's continuity. Like some referee whose job is to sit and watch the situation again, and give feedback directly into the main referee on his headpiece. Can't have the main referee running off the field to watch a screen, that would take WAY to long. The decision from the dude watching the screen would have to be near instant for it to work. Like a hand of god guiding the main referee. Guiding being the operative word here, rigidity in refereeing and soccer I doubt would work well.

Adds fairness and nearly obliterates human error. I guess human error has its charm, because it adds a random component to the match's outcome.

IMO, human error on the part of the ref. should not be a deciding factor of a game tho

Can't argue with that! There's enough human error to be getting along with.

In the MLB and NFL, the umpire/referee leaves the field to watch the replay.

I'm all for it if they can keep the scope of what they review to just goals. But based on the other sports that have recently implemented video review, they'll keep adding new stuff that needs to be reviewed.

As a ref I`m completely against it unless it`s use to rectify goals being miscalled, and even then I`m still very iffy on such a system being implemented. The beauty of soccer is that it`s virtually nonstop. Adding replay booths will only serve to slow the action down and kill the play of the game.

Scoring and red cards. However, it has to be on a coach challenge that they only get 2. If they're wrong they should somehow be penalized to stop overzealous challenges.

As a ref, would you like to be able to have someone to back you up if you miss something/aren't able to make out exactly what happened? Or would you rather be stuck making a call when you know you weren't in a position to see exactly what happened?

After scoring or someone being given a red card it is hardly straight back into action. All you'd need is 30 seconds or so. Which is all it would usually take for things to get going again anyway.
