Footloose is a monster!!!

Old thread but I just wanted to mention that I am now part of the, "ah s***, I have to learn this for the band I am in now"! club. I have about a week to get this one down, in addition to 4 other songs. I told the lead singer that this song was a beast. And as someone earlier in this thread mentioned, the guitar player and drummer are probably not going to do a "note for note" rendition. However, I want to get as close as possible to the original recording. I may nix that crazy octave stuff toward the end of the song... small hands and short fingers here. It will indeed be a challenge... even just to remember it all once I get it down!

Godspeed! It's now my favorite song to play.

Never seen this thread before...about a year ago, my band decided to do this song..at the time I was thinking what?? footloose.? oh hell no..MTV wore the crap outta that song. However the song was voted in, so I'm thinking this one won't much to learn...Another easy one..I got home, and watched the vid of Daryls house with them doing it..I was thinking hmm not bad..let me try this...so I got the original going and listened to it and was like uh oh...this is much harder than I thought. It took me awhile to get it down the chorus and those fast runs in a couple spots..I told my room mate, I don't know if I can get this one down...he said footloose?? cmon..ha ha..I know right..but I slowed it down and got it then started speeding it up until I could do it..

the song is one of our biggest songs..huge reaction, and I love playing it..a video of us surfaced on fb and my drummer told me jesus murph you play that song so clean and fast..I can't believe how clean that is...ha ha..well it took a lot of work..but I do love a challenge..goes to show you should never discount a song a band member wants to do..it may be one of the best ones even if you don't personally listen to it a lot...keep an open mind..and play....

Great story! Enjoyed reading about your experience. I hope I get as "clean and fast" as you when playing this song. I'm sure it will be a crowd pleaser!

If you can play STP stuff, kudos to you. DeLeo is such an underrated/unrecognized and underappreciated bassist. I've never even attempted any STP. Been playing bass for about 10-11 months. I absolutely love his bass playing! Going to checkout that Footloose bassline.

Not a covers kinda guy, but have learned a few over the years. Always neat to discover a bass player you never realized was amazing until you try learning a song by them. STP (DeLeo) shocked me. He manages to sit so comfortably within the sonic frequency of whatever the song is doing that its SUPER easy to miss just how gnarly his lines are. You know you've nailed his lines when they disappear into the song. It's really weird.

Killer thread, never realized how gnarly the footloose bass line was. Ty!

Hi,

That's pretty cool! It's a fun song. I've always played that song in the key of G, like the Blake Shelton cover. It's similar and I've tried to catch most of the notes and keep the feel. Here's a performance from my previous band. The keyboard player is singing off camera. We still do it in my current band, the drummer sings it.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Wow the KRB.. thats an old video. your the best on that tune. ;)
