ugh!...just added this song to my bands setlist a cpl months ago....took me a bit to get the main bluesy riff at correct tempo, but the flare of that song comes in at the last dozen or so bars in the end where you can get kind of crazy...it is a fun song to play.

Interesting - I recently decided to tackle this correctly. I learned, practiced it, and played it live - and it doesn’t work. Last night both the Bal and drummer said half the notes get lost on the thinner strings. Whatever I was playing before just had more bottom end. I was playing more of a blues lick.

I think maybe adding a dab of the original to what I was originally playing may work. But it’s really a case of if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it. However, the way I had been playing didn’t use any open strings and by the end of the tune my wrist would hurt a little. Either way, the recorded version just isn’t working for me live.

Someone actually pointed out the bass line I’ve been playing is essentially Happy Birthday by the Beatles! It works pretty well for Footloose.
