Footswitch: Latching VS. Non-Latching

I have a Boss RC-50 Loop Station and want to get some add-on footswitches and expression pedals. Boss has 2 types of footswitches. Latching and Non-Latching. What's the difference and which one would I want?

It depends what you're doing. A latching footswitch is easiest to use for "on/off" functions like reverse while a non-latching is for toggling or if you get a single non-latching, it could work as a one-touch erase. It really depends on what you're going to use most and isn't easily available on the pedal already and it seems like you're limited to 2. I'd get the volume pedal and the double switch-latching for toggling between patches.

You should get the one that is suited for the device you wish to control. The wrong type won't work as expected.

A latching switch acts like a conventional switch. press & release = on, press & release = off.

A momentary switch alters the control voltage only whilst the switch is depressed. press = on, release = off.

I don't know much about the RC-50, but the Jamman uses non-latching footswitches.
