For Tequila Lovers

Good to know, thanks for the tips. I'll give the Lunzaul a few sips tonight and see how I do.

I would definitely recommend a couple of rocks for the Lunazul instead of drinking it neat, to take a little edge off. As a "budget" brand, it's (predictably) not quite as smooth and easy-drinking as your top-shelf stuff.

Be sure to report back and tell us how it goes....

Huh. I prefer ice in my tequila but prefer my (Scotch) whiskey neat. (Bourbon I do on ice.) Whatever works for ya, right?

Yeah, everyone is wired differently. I'm not a fan of Scotch, I've had blended, and really expensive single malts. I just don't have a taste for it. I like Bourbon, and Canadian whiskey.

I'm a fan of margaritas especially with some tabasco. My own margaritas ared a mix of 3 different alcohols + 3 additions (mostly lemon & lime). Fortunately for me, I like fairly inexpensive bourbon and canadian whiskey, but I do like a good single malt scotch (but can't afford it so I've tried only a few) and other fairly expensive spirits.

I gave the Lunazul a try. I poured about six ounces in a glass and added four ice cubes. I forgot about it for a few minutes. When I got to it, the ice cubes were melted almost all the way. I took a few sips and all it tasted like was alcohol. Maybe I let the ice melt too much? Poured too much tequila? Too much ice? Maybe it's just a cheap tequila, perhaps better off in mixed drinks?

This is why you shouldn't put ice in your spirits, it masks the flavor too much.

Room temperature, and for god's sake, 6oz? Take it easy man!

Too much melted ice. I recommend either room temp, or with non-melted ice.

+1. Since I happen to prefer a little bit of ice melt -- especially with a lower-quality brand -- I only pour an amount I can drink before all the ice melts. If I have to put it aside for awhile, I scoop out the ice; then, if it's lost its chill by the time I get back to it, I toss in a fresh ice cube for a quick chill and then knock it out. But you should experiment and see what works best for you.

Cuervo make some excellent tequila. Reserva de Familia Reposado is amazing and Platino may be the best Blanco I have ever had. I used to be a strict Reposado drinker but I have really come to appreciate a good Blanco the last few years. Anejo is just too oaky for my taste, may as well just have a Scotch.

Yeah, it's a shame that the only Cuervo most people have ever had is their crappy "Especial" mixto -- the one that has caused so many people to give up tequila.

I feel the same way about anejos. I mean, they are wonderful beverages, and I'd never turn one down, but I want my tequila to taste like agave, not like Scotch. Save the barrel aging for the whisky.
