I've got an 86 XL2GR. It is awesome in almost every way! I gigged it for 3 years, but then moved to 5 strings. Give your new version a Roland pickup option, 5 strings, and a low price and I will be very very tempted.

I am not a fan.
I am in the Geddy Lee camp on this one. He says the only reason he played a Steinberger was due to his playing of lots of keyboards in the '80's. He found it easier to maneuver around without the headstock.
If it was around $1000 new (and made in USA), I might reconsider but not likely.

If it's affordably priced?? I'd definitely be interested in a 4.
I had an XM back in the day in white w/black binding and I LOVED it. To this day, I'm still not 100% sure why I got rid of it.
BTW-my definition of affordably priced-under $1500. Is that realistic? Probably not but since this is a "what if" thread, might as well dream big, right?

Fiver, wide string spacing (19mm). I loved the pivot wing strap system. Although I now play primarily Lakland basses, I loved my L2 and wish I hadn't sold it about 15 years ago. I love my Laklands, but the L2 sounded unique and was very comfortable. I had the 4-tsring, but I prefer 5 now.
That Status Streamline is the most attractive-looking bass I've seen. It's graphite, it's small-bodied, it's light and (no offence you Steinie-lovers) it balances. And anything made by Status means quality. Surely it's the descendent of the ideas behind the Steinberger with 30 years extra technology and experience and a body that's radical in its own way.
I'd grab a five string wide neck version for sure! Loved my Steinberger Q and would love to have a "real" Steinberger boat oar.

I had a Status all graphite S2000, and I currently own a Status Kingbass Artist. They are both top quality instruments and everyone I've heard from that has a Streamline does nothing but praise them, both for playability/ergonomics and sound. Status represents what Steinberger could (and should) have become. I'm GASing for Streamline myself (but currently have a Lecompte fretless custom order coming in December). Even if Steinberger came out with a new instrument, I'd doubt it would be up to the quality and sound of a Streamline, seeing as how Status has had so many years perfecting the design, and each instrument is a custom model.

I've got both the 77 and 33 floor units. they are awesome, but i rarely gigged with them, I was only playing rock cover standards at the time. Lots of fun to jam with though! Even now I don't use my Vbass as much as i used to (that also saw around 3 years of gigging), but I would want the roland pickup option on a new graphite 5, I'm not sure how many others are into it but I can spend hours testing and editing tones.
