Formula 1/F1/Formula One

Very unfortunate. Don’t think 1-stop was part of their plan, but should’ve been covered. Toto talked about less rubber left on his tires due to 1-stop vs. two. Could it make that much of a difference? Maybe. Also, no in lap after the race due to length of track, so no chance to pick up marbles afterwards. All things that should’ve been considered. Live and learn.
Sorry for George. He drove a race deserving of the win.

My first thought was that it was an error related to the parts and setup changes they made before Quali, maybe combined with the tire variance?

It sucks though. I’m not a Mercedes fan but Russels win was the best part of the race.

So with Sainz's deal somewhat in place, does this mean Albon is out at Williams??

Very cool!! Will the deal include tix for F1 @ COTA for you?
I wish but I have tickets. I was looking and made a comment to my wife about how expensive they are, about 6X the price of most European races in case I ever had that thought. And she said “do it”.
I worked on Vegas and have done a smaller project in Miami. The night course lighting that’s all modular on the street circuit in LV is our gear. I’ve never gotten race access but I’ve been to a bunch of other sports where the facility spec says we have to be on standby for a few events after an installation.

Was a very entertaining weekend of racing. Congrats to George. Keeping the rubber side down is half the battle.

And for the Max haters…
Likely Lando will be the next big man up some time in the future.
But let’s don’t forget Max fights Lando the EXACT same way Lewis used to fight off Max.
Lando’s weakness isn’t the car, it’s that he doesn’t quite have the nerve. But he’s gaining it quickly.

I think we have seen a big improvement in his confidence since he won his first race, its great to see him battling with Max now!!

IIRC, Albon and Sainz are the teamates for next season and beyond.
From Williams’ website…

Carlos will race alongside Alex Albon for Williams Racing for 2025 and into the new F1 regulations era as the formidable pairing look to spearhead the team’s mission to return to the front of the grid. He will continue to race using number 55.
Williams Racing would also like to thank Logan Sargeant for his hard work and dedication over the past two years. As a graduate of the Williams Driver Academy, Logan became the first US driver to score a point for 30 years when he finished 10th in Austin last year, and has played a fundamental role in developing the team. Williams will give Logan every support as he looks to continue his racing career for 2025 and beyond
.”

Sargeant out, Sainz in, Albon stays… if Valteri is in discussions (I doubt it) then it could only be as a test/reserve post.

I see that Adrian Newey has signed up with Lawrence Stroll & Co. Coincidental with their taking on Honda power units? I kind of see it that way (I wonder if Honda helped in any way with making this decision for Adrian).
I’d think the reported shareholder stake in the team and Verstappen/Hamilton level salary would require massive buy-in from Honda, for sure.

It’s been quiet here, which is surprising based on how this season has turned into one of the best in a long time! So nice to see 4 manufacturers battling for podium positions/wins after So many years of domination by Mercedes and Red Bull.

I just watched the DVR recording of the Baku race yesterday, hope to watch Singapore later today. Great race at Baku, I thought Piastri drove an almost perfect race. Very impressive.

Was fun to see LeClerc and Ferrari win at Monza.

On a separate note anyone other than me seeing a correlation between Newey’s departure from Red Bull and the team’s remarkable decrease in performance? Haven’t heard or read a word about it while following on ESPN or the few papers I still read to get my news (NYT/WSJ).

I’ve always thought that having Newey leading the design team gave RB a leg up on everyone else, the guy is a wizard, IMO. He decides to look elsewhere for employment and all of a sudden RB is swallowed by the pack that was once a second a lap behind. Coincidence?

I guess we’ll see if Larry Stroll’s investment pays off. Would love to see Fernando benefit for one last glorious flash of brilliance before it’s too late.

Newey was reportedly deeply concerned by the controversy surrounding Christian Horner, and has had a foot out the door since that news broke (whether that gives credence to the claims, is up for debate).

Regardless, Newey's Red Bull car for 2026 is already locked in, so it'll be a year before he's making a serious impact at Aston Martin (though he's bound to get straight to work making refinements as soon as the season starts, so I expect we'll see some of his tweaks once we've seen how the car performs).

Yes. Clearly. The RB isn’t close to the fastest car on the grid.

As far as Alonzo and Mini Me, they aren’t going to be a top 3 team with either of those drivers. Alonzo’s job is to look out for Lance and he is not as confident as he was. Too bad.

I thought today's Singapore race was excellent.
New Avatar!

Some really great racing behind the podium positions, but 20 secs between 1 & 2 then another 20 secs between 2 & 3, isn’t my favorite type of race. I guess I’ve gotten spoiled by Silverstone, Spa, Monza & Baku. Still can’t figure out Ferrari’s program. They should be consistently better.

I’ve come to realize over the years that there are some tracks I really enjoy and look forward to (see above, and add San Paulo, Suzuka) that seem to produce great racing and some that I don’t care for (Singapore, Zandvoordt, Las Vegas, Miami) that in my option, don’t (add Monaco to the not great racing list, but I can’t help but like it because of the history).

Hoping for good racing at Austin and Mexico City and a fun finish to this season that has turned into one of the best in recent memory!

Mercedes F1 has been moonlighting providing aero and software support for the British Ineos America's Cup team. Today that team closed out the Luna Rossa Italian team 7-4 to win the challenger series and move into the finals against New Zealand. That series is a week out. Top speed during the challenger series was 63.8mph (55.5 knots), this in a 7 ton 75 foot sailboat in about 23 knots of wind. Crazy! Speeds over 50 knots are routine now.
