This generation of the AC75 can get going in 7.5 knots of wind and keep foiling down to around 5 in lulls. But it’s been windier than expected in Barcelona much of the time and they’ve actually had to wait for the wind to calm down a few times. As a longtime high wind windsurfer, quitting at under 25 knots makes me laugh a little, but those guys have no small foil options and only so much latitude on sail size.
After Bermuda the AC50 boats were repurposed in one design format for Sail GP and Larry Ellison took the awesome proprietary graphic analysis package over there, for better or worse. Sail GP runs fleet races with 8-10 boats and they are comparable to the AC 75 in top speed. Lots of carnage! The AC50s have alternate wings for low and high wind days, and they can also run non-foiling and still make somewhat better headway than the 75s. But yeah, still a hard sell to the NASCAB crew.
