So, after 10 pages of to and fro, still all we actually know is that he was "charged with possession of child pornography in 1997. His sentence was 10 years probation".

Yup, and since the story is unverifiable that's all we're ever going to know too. I'm just curious what the OP and his wife do - thus waiting for the OP's update.

Hey guys, I appreciate all the input/advice. The purpose for this thread (see post #1) was to garner advice on how to handle this situation. In the 2 days this thread had been open, I think I've received some solid advice. Needless to say, this thread has served its purpose. As of lately, it seems like this has become a bit of a sideshow. As mentioned previously, this thread wasn't opened for entertainment or amusement, which is what I feel it has become. So I'm gonna close it. I'll potentially start a new thread (or if possible, re-open this one) with the outcome if it's appropriate. Thanks again for your help.

Since you quoted me you're sort of implying that I portrayed a mob mentality or suggested a knee-jerk reaction.

I merely responded to someone who suggested that society's rejection of a pedophile is worse than that pedophile's act, which I think is ridiculous.



I further stated that, in my opinion, the google search results would be enough for me to exit the project. I would not be associated with a RSO, and I don't think that qualifies as knee-jerk or mob mentality. It's not knee-jerk because if the guy is a RSO, he has already been convicted of a crime. For my position to be knee-jerk, I would have to make a premature judgment, but I didn't do that. And it's not mob mentality because I made my decision based on my own criteria; I didn't jump on a bandwagon without considering my own reasons.

Not really sure how your post connects to mine, but I read the story you linked and it seems pretty wacky and isolated. There's way more real pedophilia going on than goofy mixups like that. Yes, people are wrongly accused and that's terrible, but let's not diminish the crime because of it.

Lots of people are wrongly imprisoned; do we stop pursuing and punishing criminals because of the risk of getting it wrong?

I was piggybacking off of the post you quoted and responded, because I felt I had a relevant point to make. There was no intention of pointing fingers at anyone.

And there is also no reason to stop prosecuting offenders. But the court of public opinion can be a very dangerous thing. For some reason, once somebody cries "RAPE" or "PEDOPHILE", all hope for reasonable discourse goes out the window and the accused might as well be strung up there and then. Cases like this piss me off almost as much as the actual offense, because the idea of an innocent person having their life utterly ruined makes me want to vomit.

Yeah, there really hasn't been much of anything new added to the thread that wasn't already said in the first few pages - its just repeating or recycling now.

But Really, so you're just going to bailout now without an update?
