Frampton: "It's Rock and Roll, So tough..."

I have some friends that I go to a lot of shows with who insist on getting pictures and video. My wife is also one of them. I would much rather listen to, and watch the performance than document it with an iPhone.
That's fine. But when it's a concert and 100 people in front of me are blocking my view with their phones all at the same time because they're recording an entire song or multiple songs, they need to put the damn things down. And I'm 6'5", so if it's annoying for me, it probably downright sucks for just about everyone else.

I don't document much of anything unless I have to for work. Why bother? I'm not going to go back and look at it, because there's always something new to see or do. If somebody else wants to wave around a cell phone or something, fine, as long as it doesn't get any anybody's way or distract from whatever is going on.

I have zero patience for children and their "smart phones". Here in San Diego, you can go to the beach and a sunny day and see HOARDS of folks bent over, shading their smartphones so they can text or facebook or, of all crazy things, text while riding a bicycle on the boardwalk. Sheer and complete idiocy. So to Peter Frampton, all I can say is "GET SOME, PETE!!!"

Yep, and there is usually an announement before the show stating such. But what can you do when 500 people in a 2500 seat theater are doing it? Ushers look like idiots playing 'wack-a-mole' when they approach the offenders accessible only by the aisles, while those in the center go their merry way videoing at will. And outdoors? Forget about any enforcement there.
Cat's out of the bag folks. Frampton blew it. He should have posed cheesy-like for the guy doing it and moved on. Or he could have invited that guy up on stage, and Peter and the guy could have done selfies together, or with bandmates, sort of make a spectacle of him. But there will always be folks who will buck the "shoot all you want for the first three songs" allowance and record at will throughout.

Like him, I am sick of people running around with their little phone cameras acting like they are Annie Libovitz or Ansel Adams!
I was at MOMA in NYC last month seeing the art of Jackson Pollack. There were all these completely obnoxious little dweebs pushing their way around taking pictures of this amazing art with their piece-of-poopie smart phones.
Not only would they probably never look at these pictures but I felt like they weren't even getting the point of viewing live art.
Not to mention the fact that they could simply go on the internet and see images that are probably 1000% better than what their frickin' stupid little phones could take.
I am sorry but this crap really pisses me off.

No problem at all with Frampton's response. Rude self-centered people only respond to rudeness.
I have a couple of close friends that met Frampton separately and said he is a complete @$$hole. I don't like to start these "my friend's, cousin's, garbageman's, accountant's father in law says..." rumours but more than a few bands that have opened for him say the same. Just not a nice guy. Kim Mitchell of Max Webster fame (if you can call it that) told a story on the radio in Toronto with his experience when opening for Frampton. Pretty funny that a now B level performer has so much attitude.
The camera thing can get annoying, but no need to whine about it or throw a guy's phone. That's what security is for!

Okay, here's the problem.
I was just signing on to my email and this image pops up.
It is a family, out in the pristine wilderness. Are they enjoying where they are and the beauty around them? No. They are all staring at a frickin lap top computer. It's not just that advertising is telling people how to live and behave, it is telling them what is important and what is "real".
Maybe this family is looking at a website that shows the forest around them.
It's not just that the marketing is leading humans around by their noses, humans are stupid enough to allow it. What an embarrassing condition!

I think its super lame for people to try to record a performance at a big show. You know the PA is going to distort the sound and the picture is going to suck, so why bother? Why miss your chance to enjoy the show by screwing around with your phone?
On the other side of this, I don't know how this isn't illegal bootlegging. You are recording a private performance that people had to pay for to see, and the person performing is getting paid to do (theoretically). I'm not a legal expert but it seems like some kind of copyright or ownership right is being violated here.

Legally, probably not. Ethically? If someone is going to be a jerk then he or she has to expect that some people aren't going to give a damn about their "rights". We learn what is socially acceptable by others' responses. Cell phone use annoys a lot of people, but most are too chicken to do anything about it. I'd love to see more cell phones being hurled to their demise.

Me too, but if you were just taking one or two shots, and he grabbed your $400 (or whatever) iPhone, you'd be pretty @$$$%!ed, and probably complaining here about what a jerk Frampton was, and that you had no recourse.
Why roll over? If more people responded honestly to obnoxious cell phone use then maybe people would start to get the message and begin to feel ashamed by their boorish behaviour.
Probably. To be fair, that clip didn't explain the whole story. Apparently the guy who had his cell phone snatched was particularly obnoxious - it's not just that he was taking a couple of shots.
I would say ban them, but it's kinda hard to confiscate 15,000 to 50,000 cell phones (maybe 500 at a Frampton gig).
It is a hard one. You can't take people's phones away but I guess they could watch for it as they do for smoking. Basically tell you to stop or throw you out.

Yeah, but people still flick their butts out windows. I can get all in their face about it and start road rage incidents, or move on keeping my serenity (while silently pitying that poor fool).
