Frankenstien Bass Rig

I am looking for opinions here, positive or negative, hopefully both, if this is even worth doing. I have a Hartke HA4000 and a GK Backline 600. I want to run the HA through a Kustom 2x15 cab as a 'clean' amp, and the GK through a GK 4x10 as a 'dirty' amp, maybe run some effects on just that one and leave the HA as just solid, clean bass. A long time ago, I used to have a small box that allowed one bass to be plugged into two amps, I had an old Univox tube combo and a Fender Twin Reverb guitar amp with a distortion pedal. It was cool for a while until the Fender burned out (I didn't know squat about gear then, and the band sucked anyway, but it was fun!). Also, any reccomendations on gear to make this happen would be cool. I'm also very broke so I can't spend more than $200 on gear right now. If Frankenstien played bass, this is the rig he would use, so any suggestions are welcome....

Also, forgot to mention. I have a possibility of trading the GK head and cab for an Ampeg PR410H cab, which would leave me with the Hartke head, Kustom 2x15 cab and the Ampeg 4x10 cab as a stack. Is this a better option than screwing around with two heads and cabs?

So, you're looking for suggestions on a decent AB/Y box for under $200. Well, since you'd be running both amps full time, why not consider a stereo fx pedal, run your bass into that, then take one of the 2 outs straight to the clean amp, and the 2nd out to the rest of your fx, then on to the other amp.

Unknown. The 4x10 is a GK BLX410, 8 ohms, but I have no idea what the Kustom is rated for, I have been playing through it for ten years and have never had a problem with anything I have plugged into it.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking. Yes, If I make that trade, I'm pretty sure that Ampeg is a 8-ohm cab, rated at 600W. I would probably replace the speakers in the Kustom with 600W Eminence and make that cab 8 ohms as well. That should leave me with plenty of overhead with the Hartke pushing 400W through two cabs rated at 600W.

^^^ People have been "upgrading" their car speakers and home theater systems for years by just slapping a new driver and calling it a day. Live sound reproduction is much more complicated than "Bob, just get a three thousand watt amp, some sound columns and a sub from Best Buy and every movie you'll watch will go kablamo".
