Here's a bit more that I didn't know where to dump. I'm not going all out pickup review on this for right now, but this is that first single coil you sent me John, the one you didn't like the casting on.

Bronco bass with some super dead strings. First is some old ska riff, second slap. Both times I gradually rolled off the tone. The third is a mixed style epic metal intro. (Kidding, of course.)

With tone about 75% it really sounds exactly like a P with flats and vintage reproduction pickups, especially when slapping.

I'm glad you where able to use that pup.
The pickup chris was sampling was a strat single coil middle.

I want to update this thread with some new information, after spending alot of time and effort making my own castings I've decided to use premade covers and stamp my logo on them instead.
P-2 shape & Humbucker;

These are just the start, I'll be taking pictures of all my pickups and I'm in the process of redoing my website.

I'll still offer castings, I recently did a white set of J/P/J's for a fellow TBer and I've experimented with other colors as well. The black pickups are the hardest for me to get a good consistancy, some look great, others I have to end up painting them and that has caused a few problems with flaking.

BTW for those that just found this thread, please note that their are "no more free pickups" the offer ended about 3 hrs after I posted the first day.

Lane Poor used to do a good deal of finishing after the pickups were cast. Sanding the top and sides flat, radiusing the corners , drilling holes .... One of the final steps was to coat them with Armor All. Depending on the type of resin your using something like this may be a better alternative to simply painting them, though it does involve more work.

Yeah, that's true it's a lot more work. :bawl: and it sucks! :D
The premade cover witH my logo is wayyyyyy easier and I don't have to worry about drilling the screw holes and hitting a lead wire. :hyper:

Well, the Bass that Nomad98 has been working on has arrived! I've had a bit of time over the last week to play around with it, and the pickup on initial noodlings gives quite an accurate sound. Phil also wired a switch for series/parallel alternatives - parallel seems to work better for slap, and series for softer playing (tapping, fingerstyle and so on).

I'm going to make a video review of the whole Bass when I get a chance, so I'll be sure to link to it in this thread too! I've got my first band rehearsal with the Bass tonight, so I'll let you know how it goes in a band situation.
