lol, i was just telling him how to spell the word, I really dont care if you use it or not. I for one never use it, its fries or "frites" when I speak french, thats it.

Middy, you are so on the money here. The media imo does feed us a lot of crap and it doesn't do you guys any favors. It's hard not to get trapped into believing some of it. I'm sure the same thing happens in reverse sometimes.

Definitely +1, but criticism is like brain surgery, one wrong move and ooops!
If not done with tact, it can unintentionally come across as ignorant as what one is criticising.. next thing you know a whole conversation is spiralling down in flames which is a shame because if it didn't, maybe folks here can learn a lot from each other.
I still like the idea of walking into a store in the US and asking, no demanding, my Freedom Fries. And how the second poster said the school changes the name of French Toast to Freedom Toast. That is cool (and dedication to a cause!). Actually it was very unsuccessful. It is apparently not easy to change a long running practice, it never stuck. Even something as insignificant as the name of a fast food.
My post wasn't in reply to what you said, it was more a general comment on all the names these stupid thin bits of fried potato get called.

Ignore it, the old "I got lots of PM's backing me up" is such a hollow claim. Someone needs to bring out that "internet tough guy" magazine cover whenever some makes that claim. Its up there with mentioning Hitler in a thread!
Best ignore it and it will go away. The real issue here is the correct name for chips! Speaking of which...what is the deal with the UK calling chips "crisps". I refuse to bend on that one and still call them chips!

I can dig calling them chips if we're talking about Kettle Chips or Tyrells (sp?) chips, because they are thick cut, like door wedges, and so the crisp is more like a chiping of wood in those cases...
