Freedom fries

By the method they are made, I'd argue that they are closer to shavings of potato! :p

Of course, you still get people calling Wotsits and Quavers and stuff "crisps", due to the generic nature of the term, but I've not idea how the corn they are made of becomes the end product.
But once they are fried they become "chips" of potato! :D

I wonder why AUstralians / New Zealanders call them chips and brits call they "crisps".

I generally just say fries. But I have never and will never use the term "freedom" fries unless in jest; ESPECIALLY because it happened during the same time as the p.a.t.r.i.o.t act. It was like the government driving a knife through my favorite country in the world. Its healed and healing though, so I'm happy.

Because when you call crisps crisps that what they are.

Chips are chips - cooked and that's what they are

French fries well guess what? They're french fries!

Wedges are well wedges............

Mystery solved!
I don't think I have ever heard an Aussie call chips (ie Smiths) crisps before. And, for that matter, wasn't there an ad on TV in Australia about being "Australian" (or was it-un-Australian) that said calling "chips" "fries" was un-Australian?
