Power PC with 10.5.8 basically useless: No control functions at all, audio sounds like a 33 1/3 record skipping, and Karaoke mode same as with iMac. Problem is processor, not the OS version. Quantum leap between PPC and iMac. Rats! Love the app, but now I have to lug my bass up two flights of stairs......only PPCs in my basement.

Karaoke mode sounded fun, so I programmed it right away... Technically it removes the center channel so usually also bass track is removed, which is a great feature for bassists.
The updated version is available on the website. Karaoke mode can be activated from Audio | Karaoke mode.

When you have time, the adjustable hi/lo pass e.q. for bass/treble is really helpful.

The Good:
- The slow downer is pretty much perfect. If I really need to slow something down I usually just use quicktime 7 but this slows things down more nicely.
-The transposer is great too, very clean
The Bad:
-It couldn't read some mp3s
-The transcriber looks like it works but it's really jumpy and doesn't seem to capture rhythm well at all.
-Can't click the transposer, volume and slowndowner into place. You have to drag

Despite my criticisms I dig it a lot and it's FREE!! I'm going to use this as my primary track slower and pitch shifter for personal practice.

These are now fixed. Next I'll do the zooming (and improve the transcribing, maybe).
Overall, the app works well, although I don't find much use for the karaoke mode. Transcribe seems to work well if recording is at standard pitch. If the recording pitch is off standard one way or the other, adjacent keys are highlighted for a given note. Would it be possible to add a built in tuner? Perhaps use the keys on the transcribe keyboard to give reference notes. My biggest pet peeve is to have my bass in tune, and have to retune to match the recording. Could you add a pitch shift to bring recorded pitch to standard tuning? Preferably, the pitch shift would be infinitely variable between semitones. This should also make the transcribe function work better. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable sum for this app with those changes.
Can someone suggest a good app to convert other music file types to mp3 or WAV format? Most of my music is in wma format.
I just downloaded the latest version with the fixes mentioned, but it still doesn't remember folders. Everything else works as advertised. Great job, I'll be using this often.

I'm a hardcore BP user.
Yours is more fun and easier to navigate.
The 2 features I like in BP is "save as" and a positive speed control.
I can save tricky songs I sing in my key.... I can speed up a set to just blow through it and ensure I have the changes/form down.
I dig your program.. the keyboard thing is fun to watch.

Watching the 1/2 steps.. we have a 50/50 chance of guessing the key the 1st time (in most pop tunes)

Runs perfectly on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop (with OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime). Only the desktop I have now is and OLD one so it pauses audio constantly. I'll give it a try home and let you know. Thanx!

Can you give me a little guidance as to how to get it running under Ubuntu 10.04 please.
I have OpenJDK Java 6 Runtime installed but cannot work out how to get SlowMP3.jar running with it. This is the first time I have tried to run a Java program so am a complete noob at it.

I have got it working from a Terminal using
cd /path/of/the/jar/file
sudo java -jar SlowMP3.jar
It will run without the sudo but has no menus.
Is there a way to run it from File Browser, I am sure there must be but I do not know enough about Linux to be able to do it.
Like you I am running on a slow PC so it is pausing constantly but will try on a faster PC as soon as I get chance.

Ok. Tried it on a lot faster PC, a dual 3.6gHz processor running Ubuntu 10.04. 2Gb RAM, 7200 rpm hard drive..
It sounds a lot better but still keeps pausing about twice a second. At least now I can recognise the song.

'Karaoke' works but sounds very phased on some tracks, probably the track mixing not the app.
'Transcribe' does not seem to do anything. Correction. I had not hit the tiny on/off button, I was trying to turn it on and off with the tab.

just gave it a try, works great! the transcribe keyboard is abit hard to follow, but the speed feature is a great tool for learning by ear. awesome job!
