Double Bass Freight Disaster

My beautiful fully carved girl got smashed in transit. Now I've sent it again by freight to my luthier 3000km away. When it's done I will drive 3000km to pick it up and 3000km back as I can never trust freight companies with my double bass ever again. Australia is one big country but at least we have Benedict Puglisi here, my one luthier I trust. McBride plays one of his basses. I can't wait to post pictures of my bass once it's restored. I just felt like sharing my pain.

Sorry to see those pictures, and wish you the best in putting her back together. I hope you were well-insured. This should serve as a cautionary tale for the rest of us. I've only shipped basses with a 'white glove' one-man delivery service who specializes in moving art, antiques, and musical instruments, and stories like yours keep me from searching for other less-expensive alternatives. Good luck!

I feel your pain…
I just moved and put both of my basses in my Nissan Rogue and took the Amtrak auto train to my destination. The thought of someone else transporting my babies made me sick. But so did the cost…
I can never trust freight companies with my bass. Check this! When my baby Suzan (name of my bass) gets fixed I will drive 3500kms to pick it up before driving back home another 3500km. Motels, food, fuel, time. 7days minimum off work. All this just to get her back safely. I don't really care. My luthier told me "your bass will sing again" Can't wait to have her back.

Amen.
