Double Bass french bow, which bowmaker?

hi, i live in germany and i am switching to french bow. i have a hard time to find french bows here... i tried some knoll and a hoyer bow.
up to now i did not find a good one...

my budget is about 2000 USD. i need the best stick i can buy for my money, because i make my living from bassplaying and i hate bad equipment.

it is possible(but expensive) for me to try some prochowniks. what else should i consider?

Prochownik bows are great fro the money. You should contact Alain Herou in Paris, too. He makes wonderful bows - I think his current price is around $2000 USD.

I would just start checking out some sites via google. There are some good places on the net.

what do you think about gruenberger? i have an offer for 2300 Euro used. is this a realistic price?

Hi, I really like my Bryant. I don't know where you might come across one (I bought mine from a bassist in the BSO), but if you do happen to see one in a shop, by all means give it a try.

2300 euros is a great price for a Grunberger - I think his price new is 3000 euros or more. Grunberger bows are among the very best.

Also take a look at Dolling bows. I'm not sure if that's how you spell it or not. My old teacher, Tim Cobb, always said that those were some of the best bows he's tried.

I have liked every Grunberger bow I've ever tried. All of them, save one (which was still good), were exceptional bows. Definitely worth trying.

+infinity for Grunberger's bows. I have one, also I have a carbon one I use for outdoor gigs. They were so great my wife ordered a cello bow from him and she loves it too.

i just bought an emile ouchard. A great bow for not much more than your budget. Don't buy too quickly and take your time to find your bow. Ask as many people as you can if they don't know any bows.
