That's not my way of doing things. I never trust any techs in this unprofessional area I live in. They break everything!
just hammer them back on, but chances are (in my experience) that they're not gonna be level the same way before.

When you say, "coming out a little" what are you describing. Are the fret ends lifting up out of the slots? If so, you can lightly hammer them back down (carefully) If they are protruding out from the sides, then the wood has shrunk and the ends need to be filed off so that you can't feel them. If this is the condition, do not hammer them in, file them off. This is a fairly normal occurance.
If they are lifting out of the slots and don't stay down when hammered, then you may have to press them down with a caul and use a glue, like CA (Krazy gule)

If it's just "fret sprout" -- fret ends sticking out sideways -- the usual remedy is to take a 6" or 8" long single cut smooth file and very carefully run it up and down the edges of the frets. Stop just shy of the file touching the finish or wood of the fretboard.
When the weather gets more humid, the fret ends normally recede back into the fretboard. If you file the fret ends once or twice during the driest season of the year, the instrument is normally cured for life -- or until you have it refretted.

I guess I'll get a better file and file away! Although, the wood looks pretty dry. Is there a way to moisten it up with oil?
