Fretless 5 string Canary !

Well since we are only allowed one bass per thread, Ill start a new one for this bass.

This is the bass in the early stages.

Neck is coming along good but I dont have many pics of the process, anyways its exactly the same as the Thuya build since I did all three necks at the same time. Here is a link to that build http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=522018 To be honest the only reason this is a fretless is because I couldnt gather up enough courage to slot all three boards with the stewmac pull saw. Ill have to order that blade and stick it on my radial saw.

Anyhow here is the slotted board ready for fretlines, I just kept my CRT blade on there so I have a nice thick fretline. Much more visible than a simple veneer, not that I hate the look of a veneer, but if I would have slotted this board to put a veneer, I may as well have fretted it, Id been wanting to try a fretless anyways.

Planed some Wenge 3mm thick, and cut it into 3 strips.

glued and clamped

Couple hours later, I unclamped it, drew pencil lines everywhere..

..And sanded the lines almost flush with my Orbital sander. I then finished it off with a 14'' sanding block.

Next up is the radius... (sore shoulders, comin right up!) I think I might do some routering before the radius to give myself a break

Illl be winding my own pickups, actually a friend of mine will be winding them. He might decide if they are split coil, humbuckers... We'd like to start some kind of partnership. As for the bridge, Ive been building my own, same on this one, but I'll order the saddles from allparts. Hipshot Ultralites as usual. Oh yeah and Ill be ordering some black nylon flats from LaBella.
