Man that was rough...my favorite body style overall was definitely the Drake and in checking out his website I love the balance of not too boutique'y and not too traditional looks, very nice looking basses.

I had to go with Kev's build for this competition. I really dig the acoustic vibe for fretless basses and I liked his take on that.

It was really between the Drake, Kev's and Simo for me...I figured Simo was a slacker and didn't finish on time :p and overall I just liked the appearance of Kevs (not a huge fan of the stripes, totally personal but that's what settled it for me).

All of you guys did absolutely fantastic and should be proud, I wouldn't kick any of those basses out of bed. Wanted to give some sort of explanation for my choice in case it's any relevance to the builders.

Have likely checked out this thread 10 times over the weekend so far. I love them all, often for reasons that any prior posting loves any one or three. So I love them all, and therefore, cannot vote for any, as that would mean not "loving" any of the others.

I'm weird, but man, this year has been inspirational. Thanks.

What strings are on this?

Had to go with Kev.., I utterly respect every one of the builds, mostly because they are all above my skill level, and I loved all of the ideas in each and every one of them. In the end, though, the hollowbody, the drawer, the build method, and his inspiration, did it for me. Each one of you guys have my utmost respect. I have been riveted to each and every one of these builds and am grateful for the education and entertainment. Good luck to all! Thanks,

well, not to sound like someone who aims to be in fifth place; but i cant beleive i got that many votes (and compliments) along side the likes of Big B. and Kev (who i voted for) this was real fun,and personnaly learned at least a few things i could use from the other projects; so thanks again

I'll agree with what most other's have said - EXTREMELY difficult to pick a winner in this bunch. I'm really amazed at the level of creativity seen in several of these builds.

So.... when does the next "competition" begin :D

PS - JC, thanks for coordinating the competition - these builds have been a great reason to check into the LC to see what's new, and I think have sparked a lot of interesting new ideas.

I voted for the Grant bass, although I think I really wanted to vote for Simo.

Either way, looks are great but the determining factors for me are feel and sound of a bass regardless of it's looks. So in the beauty competition, Simo gets my vote w Grant a very close 2nd

In a few months, Knucklehead G and I will be competing at Roberto-Venn. Looking forward to it!! Class starts on August 25!!!!

Very cool, I actually re-opened my shop in Phoenix after I left Intel. I worked at the Black Canyon facility in PHX, when I opened my shop, I had a lot of kids from RV stop by. It's a very cool place and you'll learn a lot.

Phoenix is Paradise on earth for me, still have a house in the North burbs, that I rarely see anymore.

My Vote goes to Simo.
Why?
Well, ALL these builds were so great I had a hard time choosing which one to pick.
Kev with the DIY vibe and the nice electronics drawer,
Big B with the completely over-the-top glue madness,
Barnaclebeau with his good planning and own preamp.
Just to name a few examples.

So lastly I asked myself: which one of these would I rock on stage.
And thats where Simo won, with simple yet elegant looks and simple electronics layout.

Hats off to everyone competing here. Every single Bass turned out to be a great instrument!
