Fretless Basses

What fretless basses do you guys like the best? I am looking at buying the Fender Marcus Miller fretless but I dont know. I prefer active and I like the fenders but what do you guys suggest?

They don't make a Marcus Miller fretless.

The signature Fretli are Tony Franklin's and Jaco Pastorius'

There are American Fretlesses and Standard (Mexican) Fretlesses.

That's about it.

I use a MIM Standard Fretless and am very happy with it.

I've had good luck with my SX fretless. Although it's an ash bodied, maple fretboard fretless. Not sure how the alder/rosewoods sound.

Warwick corvette fretless is a pretty nice bass. It can be had used for a reasonable price.

If you want to do a little shopping around you can find a nice Fender fretless P-Bass. I've got a '95 AmStd with a lined neck and it's really a nice bass. You can get them for $500-$700 depending upon the condition.

I've been playing a fretless '71 P-bass for decades and like it, but I played a fretless 5-string F Bass last week, and I'm still drooling out of both sides of my mouth FANTASTIC!

I have a Pedulla TBF5 and love it. It is by far my favorite bass. Thick and syrupy punchy I can make it go mwhaa and sing or make it sound fretted just by changing hand positions. Very responsive to the touch. Think I hear it calling me now gotta go

I am happy with my MM Stingray 5 FL as it has the most versatile sounding you can expect the FL to sound.

When you describe a kind of FL bass it all depends on what you gona play. IMO, if you plan to play for a substitute of our big brother then it is a big different from Bruce thing so you need to find different basses for that.

I agree, im a sucker for cocobolo, especially on a sweet fretless!

There are SO many to choose from. I just recently picked up a Spector Spectocore 4-string and it really has a unique quality to it having a chambered body, a Fishman Piezo bridge pickup as well as an EMG. What's cool about it is that it can *really* sound like a good electric upright as well as get that great "mwah". Lots of tonal possibilities.

Just my .02 cents, since that's all I can afford.
