Thanks Musiclogic and believe it or not I actually agree about the busy part. I had originally envisioned this bass with only a laminated neck with solid body wings and a matching ziricote back but once I started it seemed to make a better showpiece to do the entire body that way. The bass and guitar on the right are good examples of what I am talking about.

The bass on the left is a more traditional neck through but still with a solid top. I might a well show off a little and give you a look at the front as well.

The best part about not using the back is that I can save it for use on another bass because that damn ziricote aint' cheap. The waves make for a very interesting look on the back but I would not be able to tolerate it on the front of a bass.

Right you are. Being nearly computer illiterate I just assumed the worst immediately I will get it all sorted out in a couple of days so I can start a new thread for a piccolo bass that is coming down the chute.

Lab Journal #22: Howdy ladies and gentlemen. Carving on the bass while I wait for hardware to arrive. I dont use a ton of hand tools but my favorite carving tool is just a Buck chisel/rasp from the local HD. The rasp removes a fair amount of material while leaving the surface easily sandable and the chisel is great for getting into those pesky neck thru corners. Here are some in progress pics of various areas.

Wow, a couple of those are a little blurry, hope I dont give anyone a headache. Off to the symphony again for the weekend. Be back next week for more fun and excitement.
