Fretless five competition: Mad scientist edition

:help:

Back again with hopes that the LC can come through where the rest of TB cant. As you all know I have a satin finished bridge and I have just ordered satin tuners to match but the one thing I cannot find are good looking satin knobs. I am just looking for standard dome/bevel knobs, single and concentric, like this:

I have seen production model basses with these type of knobs finished in satin but for the life of me I cant find them anywhere. I have already posted a thread in the hardware sub-forum twice and still the only satin knobs I can find are these hideous Hipshot o-ring knobs:

These knobs have the perfect finish to match the bridge but they just look horrific to me.

DAMN YOU HIPSHOT!!!! (as he shakes his fist at the sky)

Suggestions, hints, clues???

Will this do?

SATIN CHROME Metal Guitar Dome Knob - Set Screw

I've seen some other elsewhere but I kinda forgot, still looking... If I find them I'll let you know.

EDIT: Ah, I now remember where I've seen them: Schaller has them in their assortment.

Since it's a company from Germany, I don't know if you have 'm over there or if they are easy to obtain.
I'm also not sure about the concetric knobs, think they are even harder to find...

Well, Hipshot DOES make their own stuff, don't they? Maybe you could talk them into machining a few satin, not quite so ugly knobs for you.

+1 to that. I've called Hipshot a few times and their customer service is great. They told me they'd even machine the peg holes on their tuning keys to a larger size for me for free! They're totally willing to meet the customer's needs. Call them and see what they can do for you.

P.S. I have no affiliation with them, just good experiences.

I do not, nor have I ever had any aspirations to do woodworking of any kind (beyond simple home repair stuff like hanging a door, which nearly exceeds my ability), but I randomly decided to look at this thread and my mind is completely blown. I feel privileged to be witnessing some of the finest craftsmanship and, I daresay, artistry, that I have ever seen. Concept, composition and execution all performed at a level I can't even conceive.

Just had to add that. Now, back to watching.

What That^ guy said.
Plus, there are some other builds goin' on that are cool too.

Wow, just checked out your build. I have been away and have not been able to check on your build. She looks great.
I would also reccommend Hipshot as I have used their products for awhile. I do not work for them either. I can verify that they have great customer service and are eager to please. They may be able to make up something for you.

Keep up the great work!

this thing is psychotically genius. holy cow. I am not a huge fan of the look of basses where the upper horn is merged into the neck like that, tho it's growing on me, and I'd love to know how this thing feels to play, I tip my hat to you, completely over the back of my head, down between my legs and up and over again back onto my head.

the level of detailed planning is mind blowing. I came in late and saw the pics of it on the jury rigged finishing mount, thought the neck was very strangely shaped due to the wavy laminate, and that the back was more figured than it was, so I started at the beginning. jaw dropping work here. have you logged your hours on this?

Hey Big B.

Been following for a while now. The bass looks great.
I just found this website while searching for other things. I haven't purchased anything from them before and I don't know anything about them. They do seem to have non-concentric knobs in a matt/satin/brushed chrome.
It's about a third of the way down the page.
