Fretless five competition: Mad scientist edition

Lab Journal #19: Spent the morning rounding the edges of the body with a 3/4" roundover bit. I prefer to let the bit ride a little deep. The leftover ledge allows an orbital sander to work a nice smooth curve on the edge of the body.

After the sander:

This is by no means the final shape but gives me a good starting point to work into a final shape. Now that the rough shaping is done the fingerboard is glued on.

For the first time I get a good look at my creation:

Just like the body, the square edges of the neck will be far more attractive once they are rounded. That is all for now. I will be spending the rest of the week out of town with the symphony so this may be the last check in for a few days. Thanks for following along and there will certainly be more action soon.

I think the work on this concept, and the execution have been spot on, and it's definately off the charts. The top is H-O-T HOT, the FB, is not my favorite( not big on the black and white ebony) but looks Great against that top, a perfect match!!! the back and neck are just way too busy for me(That means for my PERSONAL preference...before the kiddies go nuts), I love the design, absolutely beautiful instrument comming together. Nice work so far Brandon....it's going to be wild under a finish.

Fantastic!
I really enjoy the uniqueness of this build and I think the finished bass will be stunning.
However, I wonder about the stability of the neck over time and whether it will be more prone to twist than a neck with straight laminations.

Not trying to be critical or detract from the beauty of the build, just thinking out loud.

Cheers!

Anybody else stop reading the other comp threads?

If you quit reading the other comp threads, you will be missing out on a lot of instructional information that could otherwise be gleaned by paying attention.

hmmmm...that sounded like one of my profs in grad school....LMAO
