Fretless Tone Question

Normally, I play fretless (and "faux" fretless) by soloing bridge PU and rolling down tone (passive Jazz bass configuration and I believe this is the way Jaco did it). However, Im looking more for Brad Lang's tone on ABC albums and Im having a hard time dialing it in. Worse, is that Google has very little information on/about Brad Lang (Not to be confused with Y&Ts Brad Lang...two different people....this Brad Lang did the fretless work on most of ABC's albums, not bandmember Mark Lickley, who is also a good bass player).....Any help appreciated, examples below:

show me really sounds like a bridge p/u (stingray) bass, or favoring bridge on a jazz. given the time period, a MusicMan is not an unlikely guess. strong mids too, not too scoopy. leave about 1/3 of the neck pup in to get some oomph.

Thats what I was afraid of......I was hoping this wasnt the case LOL ... any suggestions (like Parametric EQ settings) to help get it closer on a Jazz?

<---- waits for the "just buy a fretless 'Ray" obligatory response from someone as if I have a money-tree behind my house to go out and get one :D

So you have a money bush, that bears just enough fruit to buy a parametric equalizer but not enough for a new bass?
:::dancing banana:::

Try a very broadband peaking filter centered around 200Hz, +3dB, and then don't roll off the treble. The characteristic Stingray sound as I hear it is defined by a thickness in the lower mids that a Jazz Bass bridge pu doesn't have, but also a bit more clank/tinkle/sparkle up top.

(I haven't actually listened to the ABC examples, that's all just based on my recollection of MusicMan basses.)

Y&T had a Brad Lang? I think I missed a whole decade somewhere. Turns out they kept on going after Phil passed. I am out of touch.

theres more Google out there about Y&Ts Brad Lang than the Brad Lang that was on a fantastic album produced by Trevor Horn...I mean, I literally find zilch on this guy.....the mystery bassist...........
