The only way in which the number of frets affects tone in any detectable way is if it affects pickup placement. Other than that you can chalk up the effect on tone to any number of things not the least being electronics, strings or bass to bass variation.

It really doesn't matter for me. I don't think I would ever use a 24 fret. But I guess I'd have to prefer a 22 fret.
