Fretting hand wrist bending (also, general beginner tips)

So, I have been learning bass for about 1.5 months, and have reworked my technique (if you could call it that) over the past week because I realized I had no idea what muting, music theory, scales, or anything else along the lines of competency were. Now that I am paying more attention to my technique, I've noticed my left (fretting) hand wrist is bending quite a bit, which I have heard is very bad. However, whenever I try to do any exercises (1234's) or play I find that I can't really help it. Any tips on how to prevent this? Videos or diagrams would also be helpful.

Pardon if I seem a bit ignorant to bass, I've only realized there is more to it then tab a week ago.

Pictures are really going to help here but the best advice I can give is to take a lesson or two from a pro. One good lesson can help set you up with proper technique from the start. I'm guessing "some field" isn't near any decent cities but if you are headed to the city for the day you can always schedule a lesson. I have had several out of town students that I only saw when they came to the city.

Bending your wrist is not bad per se but if you are bending when you shouldn't it may cause issues.

Lastly, is your avatar from Are you Afraid of the Dark?

It's a field pretty close to Winnipeg, so I will try to schedule one. I'll see what else I can find online for now.

Also, it is from Are You Afraid of the Dark. Forget which episode, though.

I do not know what's online but Scott's Bass Lessons (Academy?) was commonly used among my students, he lessons get pretty basic so I'd imagine he has something on technique.

There is a fellow on TB who has awesome, but long, videos. I was to say it's @markjsmithbass . I do not know if he has any on technique but I bet he does.

A good free theory PDF can be found in @mambo4 's signature. I also highly recommend studybass.com, particularly their section on intervals.

I am trying to remember the episode myself... probably something with Sardo, accent on the dough... maybe the old bearded guy...
