Friday Weekly '88-93 G&L L5000 Roundup

For the string spacing concerns. It will either bother you or it will not. One way to find out :). I find the L5000 to be comfortable. Not as comfortable as my other G&L 5 string basses, but definitely comfortable.

I was originally going with an SB-1 tuned BEAD so I could stay with 19mm spacing. However I was thinking that might be more of an adjustment (after playing 5-strings exclusively for the last 15+ years) than just trying an L5000. I play in 3 metal bands and I’m using a pick for probably 90% of songs these days. The L5000 just seems to be built for fast pick playing...

Yeah, I think you’ll be just fine! Do be prepared for a hot passive bass though! Mine seriously has more signal output than any other G&L I’ve ever had, passive or active. Don’t be afraid to drop the pickup or run volume pot at less than full.

She arrived today and I was lucky to have a few hours to play tonight. Honeymoon aside, this bass seems perfect to me in every way. I have rehearsals with all 3 bands next week so I’ll be running her through my big rigs soon enough. I can’t wait, because she sounds *massive* through my practice amp...

Hi There, i just baught a L-5000 :)) The String Heights is far to high. I tried to set up this Beauty but i failed. I have a "DoctorDate" for this Bass and than i will see. But i already noticed thats this Bass will have a Killer Sound, even wit this f*** String Heights.. btw. the colour is not blue, it is green...

I love my black/maple so much that I had to add this L5000 as a compliment/backup. It was all jacked up on arrival last Wednesday, but I’ve rather quickly gotten it into playing shape. I played a show last night and was tempted to play this, but ultimately didn’t. Not *quite* live-ready yet...

Beautiful bass. Where did you get that it is a 93? Sickle headstock is typically associated with the earlier L5000 builds. I am not saying that it isn't a 93, just that it seems unlikely. Noting that some G&Ls made it out the door with odd combinations (so it is possible, just seems unlikely).

Pocket date definitely confirms it. From what I have seen on the G&L Registry, there were definitely a few oddball L5000's toward the end of the run (92 and 93). A few colors that had not been offered prior to that (including the LPB one that I have), even a fretless one listed towards the end of the run. Certainly seems reasonable that they found or even made an old style neck and tossed it on.
