So, seeing the relatively small yet intense demand for this rare G&L model, and how hard it is to find these (with 400 or so made and scattered worldwide), I've decided to put together a thread that keeps a weekly eye out for these special basses, and where you can find them available.
For those who do not know: The G&L L5000 is the last bass model designed by Leo Fender to see production. It is also the only 5-string bass with a low B he ever designed, and likely the first P5 to enter the market. The bass was not popular during it's run from 1988-1993 due to the tight string spacing and relatively simple P-style design. It is, after all, a 5-string version of the G&L SB-1, which itself was an aggressive take on the Precision Bass. The L5000 was discontinued after BBE settled into its ownership of G&L, making way for more popular models a few years later such as the L2500.
However, to many people who have had the chance to own or play the L5000, it's the top of the game. The small fanbase of the bass loves it, and recently, I've noticed more interest in these basses than ever. They're definitely not for everyone, but for those who like Ps, 5-strings, powerful sound and don't mind tight string spacing, here's a thread to find them. I will update weekly on Friday mornings of my findings, and anyone else is welcome to contribute too.
