You're not allowed to be drunk at all in licensed premises, ironically enough.

"Drunk" in legal terms is somewhere near drunk and disorderly. It's "five pints of Stella on an empty stomach" territory.

You can be over the limit to drive, but I'm pretty certain you're still okay to work behind a bar. Of course, there were occasions I was beyond that point behind the bar and I'm not proud (maybe a little amused in retrospect... I mean, it was the landlords idea to do shots of absinthe...)

Now this I don't get!!

So if anybody on TB says anything vaguely derogatory about the US - then it all kicks off, big-time!! ;)

But if a white, upper-class Cambridge graduate from a privileged background dresses up as an Eastern European, then you are all falling over your selves to give him money, for telling you that Americans are either :

- stupid rednecks who are blatantly racist and sexist
- up-tight religious fundamentalists
- xenophobes who think Kazakhstan is on another planet

Right, you are.

I guy I knew (a bass player, BTW) used to travel to France pretty regularly on business and found a small restaurant near his company's home office where he'd often have dinner. He always added a tip when he paid, and they always treated him almost royally when he visited.

This went on for a few years and then someone at his office told him that tipping wasn't necessary, the gratuity was included on the bill. So on his next visit, he paid exactly what was on the check. The waiter looked at the credit card slip, smiled and nodded at him and said, "Somebody told you, huh?"
