i researched the claims made in Mr. Lindfield's article and posted them as a separate thread. let us resume our discussion of transatlantic cultural differences.

robb.

Great idea.

Here's are a couple I'm sure varies from place to place.

1. Friday night is the night to go out. Not Saturday. There is a significant drop in activy on Saturday night.

2. Restaurants open at 7pm. They are fairly empty until 9pm and then full until midnight.

3. Bands must stop playing at 0100. We have a gig tonight in Geneva. We start at 10pm and will finish our third set at 0100 on the dot.

4. You do not tip waiters for meals or drinks in Switzerland. That one takes a while to get used to.

Have a good weekend folks.

I like Fridays better, and in our little local scene, they really are the best nights to play. But my favorite venue has decided to stop offering live music on Friday/Saturday, and only do Saturday. Saturdays are *always* dead, so I have to wonder what they're thinking.

So...no Early Bird Specials at the restaurants in Switzerland?

Why can't you tip waiters? Our waiters here would starve to death without their tips.

No - it sucks! its about 4C / Raining here today. I'm hiding inside with my portable heater and posting on TB.

I am wishing and pining for some winter weather. After Halloween already, and we have *still* not had a freeze! Its been freakin' 85F-90F all week. I'vd had to go dig my summer clothes out, and I just put them away a couple of weeks ago. Supposed to cool off tonight, but not sufficiently for me.

Wanna trade? ;)

Most people in Europe don't eat dinner before 7:30-8:00pm. We generally eat around 8.

As for the tipping, it's just customary here, probably due to the high cost of restaurant food. It's almost impossible to go out for dinner for two people and spend less that $50. Chain restaurants are virtually non-existant, which is fine. Fast food only really appeals to teenagers and street people, if you can find fast food outlets.

Yup - this is the sort of place I want to retire to...:)

My family eats on the European Meal Schedule, then. I almost never have supper on the table before 7 p.m. Drives my mom *nuts*. She wants to eat at 5:30 p.m., on the dot.

When my daughter's friends come over and they expect to stay for supper, I notify their folks that we eat pretty late, and to send their child over with a full tummy, so they won't be tail-dragging hungry at 5.

They dont tip waiters in switzerland because the tip is included in the price of the meal, or so i read in an article somewhere.

Ahhh...auto-gratuity. That's becoming more common here, too. I find that nowadays have to check the receipt and make sure the tip has not already been charged to the price of the meal, before I leave money on the table.
