from a foreigners perspective :-)

I liked this letter they published though...

David Merrell, a high school student from Suffolk, Virginia, has won top honours in both regional and state science fairs for his original experiment involving a maze, 72 mice & hard-rock!

Establishing a base time of ten minutes for each mouse to
navigate the maze, David began playing music 10 hours a day; Classical Music for one group, and ‘hard-rock’ for the other.

After exposing each of the groups of 24 male lab mice (except the control group) to Classical Music and hard-rock, for a prescribed period of time, Merrell then began to put the mice through the maze three times a week, for three weeks.

The control-group mice, which were not subjected to any music at all, shortened their time through the maze by five minutes on their own. The ones that listened exclusively to Classical Music cut an impressive 8½ minutes off their time, completing the maze in 1½ minutes flat! But… The mice that were exposed to hard-rock ‘music’ took 20 minutes longer to navigate the maze!

His experiment was prematurely cut short, "…Because all the hard-rock mice killed each other," David told us. "…None of the classical mice did that at all!" Is it any wonder, therefore, that if these lowly little rodents are so easily affected, why so many of today’s young people are being driven—literally possessed—to kill one another for apparently no reason?!

Isn't peer review wonderful???

What's your evidence for saying this?

He is not published in any of the reputable food science journals. He is a retired agronomist playing at being a food chemist. He attributes the crystal structure of naturally occurring vitamin C to its "life energy" when it is due to optical isomerisation, a concept you learn in high school chemistry. He spouts embarrasing pseudoscience.

Sure, you don't like microwaves... that's fine. But you shouldn't feel a need to cut and paste stuff you don't understand to justify your preference.

Well this was just one small part of the articles I copied and it was intresting, as Hertel was employed by a big Swiss food company as a Food Scientist until he started to speak out against Microwaves - he lost his job and was ridiculed, but stuck to his research carried out with Professor Bernard Blanc of the University of Lausanne - and they were vindicated in the European Court of Human Rights.

It's a classic case of "whistle blowing" - where governments don't want you to know this kind of thing as it will hamper big business!

Hertel and Blanc got nothing out of this - in fact they lost their jobs - but to me this only goes to prove that they were on to something which has been successfully "hushed up" by Big Business and unscrupulous governments!

This is hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. I guess the old saying "an orange a day lets you ingest the precious life energy of citrus fruits and keeps the microwaves away" isn't true?

Bruce, I thought about you at lunch earlier.

I went to subway today. Looking out over all those meats and vegetables that are left out in the open for hours at a time.......Damn near brought a tear to my eye.

I almost had my sandwich microwaved in your honor. I then decided that I didn't want a microwaved turkey and ham. If I had chosen american cheese, then I would have had no choice, but I had them use pepper jack instead.

ROTFLMAO!!!

You know, I have eaten in all manner of places. Little grills attached to the back of people's homes. Street grills in Mexico, on the Border. Rural BBQ places where you could see the dirt on the ground through the cracks in the wood floor. Beach dives. Pool halls. Gas stations. Icehouses. You name the "perceived as dirty" food venue, I've eaten there. And enjoyed it!

I've also heated food up in microwaves since the late 70's and managed not to die.

I have only been sick from food twice. Once was from a can of salmon. The other time was from fajitas at a "fine Tex-Mex restaurant".

We do have SubWay outlets here - but in no way would I class them as "restaurants" and would no more eat there than in McDonalds! :spit:
