Haha whoops:hiding:

from that article:
"Encouragingly, we did also find some evidence of the penetration of the Mediterranean diet into Scotland, albeit in the form of deep-fried pizza," said Petticrew, director of the social and public health services unit of the UK Medical Research Council, a government health research body.
:D

:)

I was amazed the first time I saw a pizza being put in a fryer at a chip shop. This was way back in the 1980s, and although I've been assured it's delicious, I've still not tried it.

I'd rather eat snail porridge.

Well - do a Google search on the best restaurants - my main point was that 26% of the top 50 in the world are in London! :)

Pants to the best restaurants!

You're talking about some form of edible blasphemy here....and that's a type of blasphemy that I do not condone!

A nice dinner around here involved getting gussied up and heading down to the Omlet Shoppe. (be sure to pronounce it properly....Shopy)

The Palace on Canal. Kind of pricey, but worth it when I was there. I hope it's still there.

France is a small enough nation that they may not have much regional variation, at least not the extremes we have. Isn't the entire country a little smaller than Texas? We have big differences from say, Alabama to Illinois. But not so much from Harlingen to Waxahachie.

Yeah, I hear ya. We *do* have regional differences in Texas, but they're mostly more subtle. Except for when I tried to order a burrito at the Sonic in Fredericksburg, and the little girl waiting on me didn't know what a burrito was. I asked her where she was from, and she replied, "Right here in Fredericksburg". I'll bet she knows how to make German noodles by hand, though! ;)

The deep fried Mars bar is a West of Scotland specialty. As is deep fried pizza, and deep fried pretty much anything else. Not for nothing are we known as the sick man of Europe!

A good chunk of the people in the South are decended from Scots who came here during the Clearances, etc. So...*now* I understand why Southerners want to fry everything! We're a buncha displaced, deep-fryin' Scots!

LOL!

This thread is getting awesome. Perhaps later we can argue about whose flag is better. Once that is determined (maybe there's a poll?) we could then argue about something really stupid...like which country has more "variety" in their cuisine. It would be great. First, I would sit and think about all the meals that I'm aware of (let's also assume that there is absolutely no cultural bleed over when it comes to identifying a meal's origin) and then pontificate on how there is NO WAY another country has more. If only.....

Later I'll start a thread about how the colo(u)r blue rules the color wheel.:hmm:

Mike

Aw now honey, we're just having fun!

But first, we must have a debate about how a Louisiana man starts using "u" in the word color...

:ninja: :p :hiding: ;) :D

Well, one of yours and many others ;)

Honey, you need to let me know if you ever visit Central Texas, and we'll take you to True Grits for dinner. LeftyJack and his wife loved it! The food is fantastic, with many good examples of our regional cuisine, and there's a *lot* of it. After a meal there, you want time to sit back, have a coffee, and loosen the top button on your blue jeans...LOL!
