What eq settings should I use for a bass tone similar to from first to last' first 2 albums

It depends on where you're playing. The room you're in will change your eq every time.

To me it sounds like you should try cutting the mid and maybe boost the bass a bit. That's what it sounds like to me on most of the songs. Some of the more up beat songs sound like a mid boost. This is the first time I've heard this band and I'm not an expert on eq but it doesn't sound like the bassist has a set it and forget it tone.

Some of the more experienced on talkbass may be able to help you a lot better if they knew what kind of bass you have and what you are using to alter your eq.

If you cut the bass and cut the treble you will get a mid boost.

Generally anytime you cut a frequency it will sound like you are boosting the others. And vice versa.

Also some amps and pre amps have a preset eq. So it won't always sound the same on everything.

But you should be able to accomplish the same type of sound either way.

So for their not so poppy songs I would cut the treble close my tone knob and boost the bass a little? And for popper songs cut both the bass and treble and have my tone knob open?

For the not so poppy songs, I would boost the treble and bass.

For the poppy songs, I would cut the treble and bass. ( if you cut both you will need to make up for the volume loss. )

I usually mess with my tone knob last. If I feel like I need more presence or Attack, I will open it.

You may not feel like you need to boost the bass more than the treble. Just trust your ear with that.

Also, you may find that if you get the perfect settings in your bedroom you will hate it when you are playing with a band. It sucks but I find that's usually the case.

One more question should I play fingerstyle (I play extremely aggressively similar to geezer butler of sabbath) or with a pick

I only use a pick for punk rock. But Just try it both ways. Do what you think sounds best.
