This funk machine is a 1970s Yamaha SB-800S "SuperBass." Be the only kid on your block to own this piece of musical history. I ordered this online from a guy in Japan who sells a lot of basses that were only ever offered in Japan. I heard somewhere that Sting used to play one of these with the Police but I can't testify to the validity of that statement. These sweet babies were only sold in Japan between 1976 and 1979. These are extremely difficult to find but they are loaded with cool features and produce killer tone.
Here is the closest I've come to a "spec sheet" for this particular bass:
Pickups: 8 pole-piece single-bobbin S-III × 1 and S-IV × 1
Controls: Volume × 2, tone × 1
Body: I believe it is a type of Asian mahogany? Feels heavy and solid like mahogany
Neck: Maple
Fingerboard: Maple
Nut width: 1.625 inches (about 42 mm.)
Strings: Roundwound
weight: 4.5 kg (9.92 lbs)
Color: Deep red transparent ("oil stain") - beautiful!
Released November 1976 sales ended around the year 1979
Nickel Schaller straplocks already installed
The dual soapbars are pretty sweet. You can get Jazz tones, Precision tones, etc. The bass is all passive. It is a solid, heavy instrument with a large upper bout but despite the unusual shape it's still quite comfortable to play. GORGEOUS deep red color.
There are dings but most appear to have been patched up and the guy I got it from did a fairly good job - you can only see them up close because he patched over w/ some kind of red filler. In general she's still in great shape, especially for a 30+ year old instrument. The bridge is shiny and new-looking. The frets have plenty of life. The action is set nice and low with nearly brand new gauge 50-110 strings. I had this professionally set up and nickel Schaller strap locks installed by a local tech. Bass plays very well. You'll enjoy this beautiful, unique instrument.
I'll take $400 + shipping WITH a Roadrunner ultra-light case. (Lower 48 only. Money order or Paypal is fine.)
Cash is preferred but I will consider trades.

I have sound clips available on my computer but they expired on RapidShare - so let me know if you want me to send them to you.
