Fulltone Fat Boost FB-3

I'd like to get some sort of overdrive pedal that'd complement my Walkabout nicely, maybe even push it into overdrive. In an overdrive I'd really like a nice warm, tube-like tone, and I'm getting a good feel from the Fat Boost.

Could anyone give their direct opinions of it, comparing it to the first version? (I know that the second one sucks) I'd really want to use it as a medium gain overdrive. Soundclips would be great.

First you want the Fat Boost Version 3 not the version one. The version one squeezes the bass out of your tone. I have had both pedals side by side so this is first hand experience not hear say. The second problem with the Version one is the tone stack is not very good for bass. It's too mids focused. The Version 3 lets you adjust highs and low independently.

I use to own a Walkabout but I don't think this pedal will do what you are looking for. The pedal is primarily a boost. It can distort when it's turned all the way up but this is not what this pedal does best. If you want to get the Walkabout to get into distortion, just bring the gain up. If it's not doing it change the two 12AX7 for hotter tubes. Tung Sol LPS for example should sound great and give you a nice distortion.

If you want a pedal to yield the distortion tone you are looking for, I would look at a good overdrive or a mild distortion pedal. Pork Loin or Hematoma are probably your best bets for this. The Holly Fire is also worth looking at if you can get passed its very high price.
