I've seen them live in Boston. They also did an Austin City Limits show. Great bassist. The whole band has a great sound.

Yeah Rick I caught the festival. Three days of non-stop great music. moe., the Allmans with Derek Trucks, Particle, the Big Wu, Gov't Mule, and Widespread Panic were all fun shows to see. I just realized that we were talking about Robert Randolf and the family band earlier in the thread...they were on the bill but unfortunately didn't make it to the festival. Anyway, it was a great time.

Sure sounds like it was a helluva line-up, Mike.

I happened to videotape Robert Randolph & The Family Band backing the Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS while I was at a gig the other night.

It appears from that appearance, Danyel Morgan now uses an Eden stack instead of his usual Mesa + Peavey 10"s stack.

I just caught them at the Sprite tour, which by the way was the best concert ive ever been to for that cheap.

They were awsome as a whole group, although i wish they had mic'ed Danyels amp because you really couldint hear him all that much, i dont think he was plugged into the PA at all.

They played I need more love, Nobody, and Why should i feel lonely, then they broke into some hendrix, voodoo child straight into purple haze. It was really awsome.

I saw them a few months ago in San Diego. It was one of the highest energy shows I've ever seen. The kind of music that puts an idiotic grin on your face. The band is really good, but RR is a freak. He has phenomenal control over his instrument and experessiveness. He plays the same basic riffs as a million other guitar players, but he does a really, really good job of it. He plays a lot of Hendrix, and of course every guitar player plays a little Hendrix. It is like a common repertoire for a classical instrumentalist. A violin player would of course be able to play certain sonatas and partitas. But when a special player played them you would know, and when Robert Randolph plays, he brings that overwhelming feeling of the master instrumentalist that so so few ever get. I basically hate guitar and can't listen to it, but the man just smokes.

I can't believe I missed this Thread... I love Robert Randolph and the Family band... Danyel Morgan is Great man... His Grooves are very Infectious.

My band is Covering "I need more love" its such a tasty groove... I wish we had a slide guitar player.. oh well.

Yeah, I've been seeing them here in NYC since they were playing the wetlands. Danyel is such a great expressive bass player. Personally, I think he's the secret weapon of that band... and all the falsetto singing is his too.

Agreed... It even says that Danyel is the backbone of the band on the website... not the exact words.. but you get the idea
