Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Can the FI do a fairly convincing job of doubling a guitar over the bass? To get a sound like this guitar/bassline

This is an actual guitar, but it's the first example of the tone I want that came into my head!

yes and no. you will not get a clean guitar on top of a bass. but you can do all the unibass stuff with the f.i. (check youtube for demos of the akai unibass) in short that would be distorted "guitar" on top of your bass...

Excuse me if this was already covered, but I was wondering about the midi out of the FI. Is there a list of what's generated in the device and sent out? (having midi on/off is probably a long shot but worth the question)

TIA,
Herwig
there will be a firmware update that covers some midi out stuff. basically it will mirror everything that is at the midi input (midi thru) and it will generate program changes when you select a program with the footswitches. there will also be a global way to select a midi channel, additionally to the possibility to select a midi channel per preset. (the global one overwriting the one selected in a preset). program changes that are generated by the f.i. will output on that midi channel.

pitch to midi output from the f.i is not going to happen. (at least that was the answer i got) or what do you mean by midi on/off.

there will be a preset down via midi and a bypass switch via midi.

It would be nice to have the option of note on and off level as a individual setting not global. Also it would be awesome if you could play a bassline while you sequence the vcos at the same time. And a Direct Mode that stays in the same bank!

Will a Sonuus Voluum pedal work as an interface as well as a controller for filter opening and closing and shizzle?

"MIDI and USB-MIDI can be used to sync the internal LFO and to automate the effect parameters. The expression pedal also sends MIDI controller messages to drive software instruments and effects.

You can also use Voluum™ as a standard USB-MIDI interface where MIDI data from your computer can be routed to/from the 5-pin MIDI ports."

Doubtful. Unless I misunderstood the documentation, you need to send NRPN messages to the FI to manipulate parameters. It looks like the Sonuus sends CC messages.

Thanks. Sucks that one those options is crazy expensive The other is behringer..... lol gotta be something else out there.

I use a Zivix PUC+ for one-way communication from my iPad to my pedals, using MIDI Designer on the iPad. Not exactly cheap either, but if you ready have an iPad...

Some parameters can be controlled by CC messages in the current firmware. Volume (CC7) ModWheel (CC1) and Cutoff (CC74) are these. I have a strong guess :), that in a future firmware update a really flexible MIDI CC control system would be implemented for more parameters. So I would wait with getting expensive controllers for NRPN MIDI controlling. By the way, there is a custom chip possibility for the Behringer FCB1010 and with that one it can control the Kemper Profiler Amp (which uses NRPN). So in theory, it is possible to make a custom chip for the FI.

So I've accumulated about a dozen patches for live use and it's been a bit of a pain to change programs. I don't have a midi setup that has required me to have a midi program change pedal.

I've been using a small droid tablet to control my monitor mix, and then it dawned on me. Why not use the droid to change programs on the FI?

I downloaded a midi control app from the Google play store and designed my own program control. Really easy to do, and the droid tablet works as a usb host so it will pass midi through a midi interface such as the Roland UM one which works with the FI. The setup works fantastic.

Check out this video link of my setup, and I apologize for the background noise. The club was packed.
