I like the idea of doing small batches. The original release of the DI was a pretty big failure for Akai but the current market for bass effects is quite different than it was then. Hardware-wise the most difficult/expensive part of this will be the enclosure. Custom enclosures are not cheap even when manufactured in China. Just guessing but the '100' estimate is probably the minimum number of enclosures he can order. All of the other parts should be readily available.

It wouldn't shock me if TB users alone could fill 100 orders with just TB word of mouth. Then all the demos and praise from those first 100 may stir enough attention and generate enough funds for a bigger reduced risk order in the future.
