hi everybody, here is an excerpt from a mail i got today from andras (the dev), read for yourself sounds great!


I read the thread, it is very interesting!


There is much ******** around now, about re-issue, Akai, etc.

1.The new product (temporary name: Future Impact) is not a re-issue, it is completely new hardware and software.

2.As it is a completely new design and Akai had no patents on the product design, there are no legal issues.

3.It is not just a plan, a working prototype exist. A production prototype is expected in early 2015.

4.Just to make it clear, I am working for Fishman just as in the last ten years, but I may realize product ideas within my own company, Panda-Audio Ltd., that are out of their interest.


“not a re-issue” means that the Future Impact compares to the original just as a brand new Porsche that can emulate a VW Beetle of the last century. It has hundreds of new features and quality improvements, I will make a feature list with comparison to the Deep Impact; just as an example, while Deep Impact generates sawtooth oscillators at 32 kHz (this is the reason of rough sounds in the high range), Future Impact does that at 706 kHz. So, it will have much better quality and a lot of new features, while it is able to generate exactly the same sounds and it will have the same user interface. The only difference is that it will have three display digits instead of the original two; One more digit shows Bank Number, that can be stepped through 10 banks of 10 sounds each. The very first bank is VINTAGE, the other 9 are new sounds with superb features. These can be edited on computer through USB. There will be a MIDI input, partly to remote control sound, bank and parameter changes, but most importantly for using it as a high end Mini Moog expander, so it could be an instrument for keyboard players as well. OK, more about these later.

ok, that is exciting, right!

Funny story about the Deep Impact....
Years ago when I had one, I was playing a show which concluded with a cast introduction over a band vamp. We decided we would play the "Flashlight" groove (funky ii V in Bb). Naturally I thought using my Deep Impact would be cool for that tune, and it was. Until about 30 seconds into the vamp when it geeked...

Every note I played, anywhere on the neck.....EVERY NOTE was an A. Same A. All notes. It was bizarre and everyone is looking at me. I'm frantically using my feet and hitting bypass on the unit, trying to change the patch, doing anything I can to make the God awful mess stop. Nothing changes, just a bunch of As. Finally had to bend down and unplug the power supply and let it reboot. Whole ordeal only lasted a few seconds but felt like an eternity. Never happened again.

One thing they can improve on is the size. Its probably not the most important issue but a scaled down version would be convenient. Other than that I can’t complain too much. I like the layout and the controls are user friendly.

Interested, and the dev's response above is encouraging.

However, if the Power Chord is a 2nd generation to the original (Unibass), I have to wonder. I've never tried the Power Chord, but when reading about it, it doesn't get good reviews by comparison.

Don't get me wrong; I'm still interested.

I'm in at the right price, definitely.

Also, I hope it's not just MIDI in but MIDI Thru as well. @lokki, please suggest that to him.
