Add mids and or cleanness, get a bigger louder amp.
My guitarists dirty sounds and mine are worlds apart so there is never a time when one covers over the other; my guitarist uses a Marshall JMP-1 for about 95% of her dirt needs getting a bunch of different "marshall" type sounds, while I use really grindy mid heavy sounding fuzzes for all my dirt needs [I don't use a OD] so there is no problem ever.
