Hey Guys. I was looking through Evilbay, and came across this auction for a G&L L-5000 hand made on Fender Ave !! If I was a little more computer literate I would post the link, but that is how the auction is listed. I have owned a 83 G&L 2000, an 85 SB2, and a L-5000 when they first came out. I have seen NOTHING like this anywhere. Any clues guys? Looks like a fake to me.
If you are talking about the sickle headstock sunburst L-5000 that is listed out there(there is also a black one) that is authentic. I really dislike those headstocks, but the bass is probably a gem.
this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/G-L-L-5000-Bass...ryZ38079QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem looks pretty legit to me.
Kinda looks like mine only not as worn in.... Mine.... Auction bass... Auction link. I know the guy, Sean selling it and he adores his fretted and fretless L5K's and knows his G&L stuff. I don't see anything fake. The sickle heads were the first made and then G&L changed to a headstock based on the trademarked eye gouger like my other one. The sickle headstock on mine... Jim
Like I said, my first G&L was an 83 L-2000, which I bought brand new.I had one of the L-5000 5 stings with the EMG'S I had just never seen a headstock like that one. I guess this old dog learns new tricks everyday. I really enjoy this site...it is chock full of so much info. After playing for 25 years, and owning 43 different basses, I still love it. Though now I am down to one lowly Lakland 55-02 deluxe. Hope you guys have a great holiday season.
Ahh, the EMG's were on the next rendition of G&L 5 stringer which was the L-5500. That was fairly short lived and then came the L-2500 with a 4+1 headstock, then a 3+2 as they are current. Jim
Yeah the 5500! Nice bass, but wasn't quite G&L like tone wise. About the sickle headstock. My early 2000 had more of a tradtional headstock, as did my 85 SB2. Was the L5000 the only model with that headstock, or were there others. Got my curiosity up now. Thanks in advance.
And the seller is a cool dude too.. I bought a Leo era SB-2 from him a couple years ago, shoulda kept that one.
+1 on Sean being a great guy. The L-5000 and the Interceptor were the only G&L basses I know of with sickle headstocks.
It certainly is a genuine L-5000. It plays beautifully and was worth every cent. Like it was under a bed for 20 years. Cheers, Jamie
